Phoenix 35 power up issue

Hi guys,

I've got a P35 on a Mega 16/15/2 using a Berg 5 RX and Futaba 9CHP TX. When I power up slowly, the motor doesn't run, but when I power up quickly, it spins fine. So if there are times when I just need a blip of power, I'd have to go to half or full for a few seconds to get her to spin since the motor won't respond when the power is advanced slowly. Any ideas?

Hi Aobid,

What setting are you on in the "soft start" menu?

Plane or Heli?

Hi Shawn,

I'm on the airplane menu.

Is this a geared application?

You may need to set the programming to "fast start" in the "soft start" programming section.

Let me know how it goes.

No, it's on a direct drive Projeti, I will reprogram it and try it out. What should I set the timing on? Med or high?

Timing is personal preference only - higher the timing, the more power and amp draw you get, and the lower the timing, you get longer flights, less power and amp draw.

You must have an awfully tiny prop on that 2 turn? How many cells?

I just got back from the first test flight.
Gear is as follows;

Mega 16/15/2
Berg 5 RX
Futaba 9CHP

Prop is APC 4.1X4.1

I just flew it with an 8 cell Kan 950 pack and it was dog slow, much slower than my friends on the 3 turn motor.

I plan on flying it on a 10 cell Kan pack later.

The test flight only yielded about 3 minutes of run time before the BEC kicked in.

I set the timing on high but may lower it to Med.

I played around with the programming a bit but still get the same results as far as the throttle not responding unless you blip it really fast, the motor won't start if it's moved slowly.

Any thoughts?

It's a new ESC, I've got about 6 P25s that I could use but I think I would over draw on the current limit.

I'd look at the start-up with one of the 25's - if all is good there, there may be an FET fixing to go bad on the 35, and we'll replace it for you.

Outside of the esc - it's VERY hard to beat the 3 turn Mega in the Projeti. The best shot with your motor, is to go with a 4.75x4.75 prop and 8 cells. Make sure as well, that the cells you use can handle the 30A (at least) that combo will pull, as the Kan's are not going to be happy at anything over 18A.

Thanks for the Tip Shawn, I have a P25 hooked up to a Mini AC 1215/16 in a GWS Corsair geared, I haven't tested it yet but will check that out tonight.

I think you are right with the packs, I'll fly it with my CP1700 8 cell packs. I flew my buddies with that pack and it rocked. It's a brick of a pack but man does it scoot!
