Engine choice for 100" corsair

Hi guys I'm about to take delivery of a 100" corsair and have a problem, the model states 50 - 150 cc now although my 112cc twin fits the cowl the plug caps will hang out. Not happy!!

So my question is would you think a 65cc asp radial would have enough urge for the Corsair or do I need to go to a 160cc radial at 3 times the cost?

65 cc seems a bit on the small size for that big of an airframe....any idea of the weight?

I had an interesting conversation with a gent tonight who sugested I should run a dirty old zenoah GT 80 interesting idea, I wonder if there is a way of running NGK cm6 plugs with electronic ignition?

I'm fairly new to gas engines in planes, but I don't see why not. That is the plug that came in the RCGF 26cc I have sitting here waiting for an airframe. From what I hear at the club, the plug is fine in these engines, the ignitions from RCG are not the best, but the plugs are fine.

Got a buddy that used a GT-80 in his Ziroli. He used a small plug with some inserts (I think, on the inserts). The plug caps just touched the inside of the cowl. We talked about cutting the cowl along the bottom and adding about 1/4" to 3/8" for a tad more clearance from the plug caps. Sorta stretching the cowl diameter out a little.

I'd love one of those, but I just wish they would make it gas.

Edwin I was talking with a gent who converted my ASP 160 4 stroke to petrol and what he has told me surprised me a lot. Apparently he has run methanol motors using the original glow plugs witha a petrol carby... interesting stuff I'll find out more soon. So down to my corsair, this is it. http://www.dragonrc.com.au/F-4U-Cors...-p/dg-f082.htm

When she turns up....HOHOho style under a tree I'll do a build thread.

You have to love the sound of a radial no matter what the fuel. Keep us informed on that conversion, I'm really interested in that. I've heard of experiments using E85 here in the US mixed with oil and running in glow engines, some good results, and some not so good.

Well I've spoken to a heap more people in the know and Im 'told the Evolution 160 will fly the corsair really well and is the closest thing to a 100CC twin, I still need an Eolution 99 (77cc for my 29% Suchoi 29 but thats a whole diffrent matter, not to mention being offered a brand new pegasus converted to petrol for $1200...... need more oney for the toys....
