Question

Stinger flex shaft hole height from bottom of deep V

I have 57 inch Apache hull and just after some advice on what height to drill the holes for the flex shaft from the bottom of the transom. I am going to run twin stingers, any advice would be appreciated.

Running as twins complicates the answer for this one.
Basically you will need to figure out the spacing between the two and wherever that falls in you will want them so that the bottom edge of the stinger base is about 1/8" above the bottom of the hull.

Twins in a V are a pain, especially if it's a deeper V.

Cheers mate, Bill when you say bottom edge of stinger base, do you mean the mounting bracket or the actual tube part for the flex shaft.

The bracket.
If you drilled your stuffing tube hole 1/8 from the bottom of the hull, part of the base (bracket) would most likely be below the edge of the hull on the outward side.
If it were me, I'd draw the vertical center lines where the drives will be and place the bracket(s) so you have the clearance wanted from the hull bottom. Get it secured to the hull, then bolt the stinger on to use as a drilling jig for making the pilot hole(s) for the stuffing tube(s). But, that's just me.

Cheers mate, appreciate your advice and love the idea of using the stinger as a jig for the holes. I am still think if I should go with the 1/4" full flex shaft or use 1/4 flex turned down shaft to 3/16" so i have a better range of props. I read that I need to keep the two props as close as possible to centre. All fun and games lol.

The further apart they are, the higher they'll sit and the more likely they are to come out of the water as the hull gets up on plane. IMO, if you need two motors I would gear them together into a single flex/prop over having two full drivelines on a V.

Mate this is not something new for a setup on a Apache hull, if you do a search you will see most that setup a Apache hull or similar will use twin drives .

Here are some pics from a build to show what I am after,

Those aren't stingers. Those are struts.

To run stingers you're looking at the props being at least 3/8" higher I bet, depending on how big the base of the stingers are.

I still stand by my original thought though, look how far from the bottom of the V the props hubs are here, that means running bigger props than needed with less prop in the water so you're losing efficiency.

If you have the stingers already, line them up to see just how far above the keel the prop hubs will be. The only way I can see you getting the props low enough is to mount the stingers on an angle so the base is parallel to the V angle instead of parallel to the deck. That could make adjusting them give weird reactions though.

The scale Arneson (?) drives do look sweet but MHZ wants a small fortune for them.
