15mm edf f104 1/72?

Hey guys,

I was thinking about one new micro edf
The plane I loved the most is the f104 so that's the one I'm wanna build bu I know that it will be difficuilt.

I've just got a new type of foam that is very light and very strong and I've calculated that the full fuse without wings and stabiliser wil be about 0.6gr

I'm thinking about the wings what type of material I'm gonna use 0.8mm balsa or or the same foam.

Foam is lighter but its about my thought to weak in 0.8mm thickness but I will cut some test wings.

I am thinking about this as setup

Shapeways 15mm rotor from nitro

This but without the prop and gear

Fully stripped so without connectors and shrink tube all soldered at the print
Will this work at 1s lipo?

Servo's stripped as much possible to and one servo for both ailerons.

One lipo 1s lipo that can deliver 1.3amp constant.

I hope this will be possible I've made the blueprint and the only thing left is make some wood moulds to cut the foam with Hotwire :-)

Anyone got test results with the 15mm rotor from nitro and one 6mm motor? The one one the thunderbolt is the one from BIM so that's different.

When the build has started i'll post pics :-)

Greets out of holland, Robert

Fear me, I'm a space-duck.

Waaaaaaait, you want to go brushed? Are you sure that will provide enough thrust?
As for the wings, I'd go for the foam with maybe a small carbon rod to strengthen things a bit. But seeing the size of this, I'm not even sure if you'll really need any carbon. Good luck with this one!

can't u go 18 mm?

also use a deltang receiver, and acutators or super expesive sub gram servos

I can go4shure to 18mm 120mm if I want to :-p
No without jokes I've got at school permission to fly in one gym hall 4times the size of one normal gym so I've got space enough to fly and the f 104 is my all the way favourite

There is one 15mm can on my way but what's the difference in performance with 15 and 18? 18 would not fit in my plane so I have to scale it up slightly but. I doesn't start building only cad plans for now that's why I've started this thread :-)

Something like this I think, only the way to make actuators left :-)

Three of this magnets and 0.3mm coated chopper wire wrap it around one 1.5mm pin and connect and it will work?

use this actuator MicroAct 0.41gm Proportional Actuator, the deltang rx 53, 20mm bahoma lipo, the ares 6mm motor that is used in the nano stick, BIM's shapeways 18mm edf fan, and 18mm fan case for a 6mm motor and 1mm depron, or if u can get it, durobatics

4 flans, u can use this site, it's got a card model that you can adapt for whatever size u ant by printing it out on different sizes http://www.freewebs.com/paragon19/coldwar.htm

Why does he have to go to 18mm? Rob wants a 15mm jet, doesn't he?

My next micro will also be 15mm EDF.

Nitros fan comes with a stator that should allow to custom wind a single phase bl motor. That one will run with my bl controller. That should give you the thrust you need. I think Nitro is starting a prototype soon

I've ordered the 15mm rotor only I will run in the thrust tube and the motor will be attached at the point that the two thrust tubes come together.

The receifer from deltang that can control 3 actuators and one brushed motor looks fine for this setup and I've got one 6mm motor at home so I think this will be the lightest way to build it

Durabatics foam is not what I wanna use i,ve got one green foam of 0.00000125gr/mm3 and it will let my full airframe weight under the one gr

Chris; do you get one good build example to make actuators?

Thanks for helping, Robert

Hey guys,

I've got a plan for one single phase motor controller.

This are the components I should use:
H bridge=bd6211-f
Hall sensor=ah3761-wg-7
The only thing left is the pic-12f683 but wich type is what I need?

And I've got one drive file to but how do I get it in the chip? It one .lzh file

I've found the magnet that I need in one hxt 500 servo motor the size is 4x5mm and 0.8mm inside if I guess.

So magnets are going to be cheaper and more easy to find for your single phase motor :-)

Best regards

Got my rotor at home today :-)
Man! It's small!!!

Don't know or you can see this but this is a picture of it.

Now it's time to start at the jet!

@nitro, any progress yet?

Hi Rob,
yes, I have wound the stator and constructed the fan. She is ready for it's first power up today and yes! she's small alright.

I may need more copper but a slow spool up just to check things out is the plan.

Your 1/72 scale F104 sounds like a great project! The key is to keep it as light as possible.

Nitro,I am really interested in the amount of thrust that you can get with the15mm fan, a single phase brushless motor, and Chris T's new controller!

What is green foam? Did you cut or sand it down, or is it available in thin sheets?
