Realflight 6/6.5: Prometheus model sound effects.


Hi,

Now that RealFlight also supports custom sound profiles, does anyone know if it's possible to simulate sound effects like this for the Prometheus model in RealFlight:

Pitts S-2S, Skip Stewart at Al Ain AirShow 2008 (3 min 59 sec)

It's possible to simulate any engine sound, really. You just need to create the profile from specific recordings from the actual engine. In other words, you would probably need to produce the recordings yourself.

Is it also possible to create the specific sound when he does the fly-by starting at 0:03?

You need to create recordings of the engine at specific RPMs, so RF knows which sounds to simulate. Extracting sounds from an existing recording would yield less than desirable results.

Does RF know when to perform that specific prop sound?
Or is this something you define inside the variant?

There are a couple of helpful posts on creating a sound profile on the KE forums. They'd probably answer your questions.

This is a complicated subject. Here is the answer:

RealFlight allows users to create custom sound profiles. For this you will need to create a separate sound file for every RPM of interest. RealFlight will blend these audio files together to create the noise for a given prop RPM.

There are no other options for users, so it is not currently possible for you to add a dynamic sound (such as we hear in the video when the prop is highly loaded). There are some dynamic sounds built-in, but you don't have any control over them. They come and go automatically.

I will see to it that this feature request is added to the "to do" list.

Kudos to Jim and Knife Edge for providing such great customer support. That is one thing I love about this hobby is you can go online to rcg ask a question and get an answer from the owner of the company...there are not many forums like that, usually you are stuck dealing with some low level customer support rep in another country somewhere when something goes wrong or you have a question about a product (and that's if your lucky).
