I agree, it is great to see a tissue build well executed, It has really got me considering going tissue on my next plane.

This is what "no fly" weather looks like around here

Just to ensure everyone who watches that the weather isn't just a lame excuse - here's how "no fly" weather looks around here.

Those snowflakes would be about the same size to scale as flak bursts.

Just keep that white stuff in your area. I don't want it near me. Great job on the Spit by the way...

Managed to continue with painting. Finished the camouflage pattern and the underside. Cut free the aileron covering and added a simple prop adapter and 6/5.5 prop. Should be ready for maiden now! If only the weather would cooperate...

Still missing: roundels and other markings, exhaust stacks and spinner. Not sure if i'll add the guns. On a belly lander they tend to get ripped off each time it touches the ground.

Nice looking model.
About the guns, I make them out of heat shrink tubing. Shrink the tube. Drill a small hole in the LE and glue the tube in with canopy glue. The flexible tube won't break and I haven't had one come out yet on my belly landers.

Glenn, cool idea! I'll try that here. Still waiting on the weather to become Spring around here. At least the snow is now gone and the forecast looks at bit promising. Don't know if i'll complete the paint (marks, roundels) before i maiden.

At last - Maiden!

The conditions weren't optimal: too windy and i had little time. So i did a quick flight with my trusty Herr Engineering Beechcraft Bonanza to check the conditions. I almost crashed her during that flight when flying too low and got caught by some turbulent air. But higher up the wind was strong but steady enough.

This made me think: it's a Spit, she'll handle the wind. I gave her 3/4 throttle and a nice hand toss into the wind - there she was up in the air. She quickly gained height and i did a couple of rounds. It was definitely too windy to see if she's flying straight but she had no serious problems. She flew quite warbird-like (as you would expect). Having pretty large rudder throws she turns quickly and reacts nicely. Landing was a non issue even though the wind was a bit too much for a bird that small and light. She glides nicely and came down without damage into the grass field.

I'd pronounce her a full success! I did another flight which was a bit longer. I played around in safe height to get a feeling for her. She felt a bit tail heavy on the first flight so i added a bit weight to the battery bay. She felt better on that second flight but i need to check without wind to be sure.

Success! I knew she would fly well!
Congratulations.
It's much too windy here, today, or I would celebrate with you.
