Idea

F3J foam/sponge

Good protection and dampening for components. I packed the batt pack and trim ballast into the nose, under the receiver and servos too. Good absorber of shocks.

Weighs next to nothing when dry. Dries into sponge. Forms perfectly to fuz.

NOTE: Plastic wrap components until dry (little oily when wet).

Cost me $4 for a 100g bag.

launch low, fly high
I like the concept.

How easy is it to change the battery (or other components) when you do this?

I used similar kiddy putty a few years ago, till I found out that it is highly corrosive and wasn't good to get in contact with battery wiring and solder connections.

Cheers

Thomas! hows my Tragi ? I picked up a High End for a slope bird after years of nagging from Keith...hope to finally get to meet you one of these days!

High end should get here in a couple weeks. Do you get to slope on the island over the winter much ?

Hi Dave
Tragi is still perfect I use it only for the lighter slope days.
I could fly here everytime it's dry, more steady SE winds in the Winter.

Hope to see you sometime on the slope.
OT out

About the sponge, test before you use it, put a pc of cooper on it and wait a few days, m2c .

Cheers

Hi Joe,
I just reach into the nose area and pull the sponge out.Even when dry, the foam is still soft (spongy) enough to be pulled out without any dramas. It's kind of a cross between sponge rubber and plasticine (without the weight). I also have a twine cord which I can use to pull both the nose weight and battery pack out (a series of knots in the cord and heat shrinked, works great).
Cheers

Hi Thomas,
Yup, I wrap everything up pretty good. Also, I make my own staggered bullet connectors for battery connections and heat shrink full length to the battery.
Cheers
