So graceful in the air, congrats on a good model.

Nice work Boa! Not used to seeing you fly something with a motor.

Tell me you aren’t tempted to make an HLG/DLG out of this beauty!

Very nice and smooth piloting as well. Please share your setup.

Hi!
I made one without the motor.
With small servos since i don't have chappies electronics.
It flies, but i will modify plans for smal 3g motor and esc.
I hope that it will fly as well.

Have a nice week!

20” stingray

I built a 16” stingray for NEAT from dollar store foam and used an 1104 4000kv motor. Although it was a bit under powered, I loved how it flew but dollar store foam being what it is, combined with some less than planned landings lead me to this.

This is a 20” version, 1108 8000kv motor, 3” Avion prop, race star controller, HK 1.7g servos, and a frsky rx on a 1/4” bluecore airframe with the plastic skin removed from both sides. I am using a 280mah 1s battery. It flew it at an indoor event on Saturday, and it is a winner, lots of speed when I have the space and maneuverability when needed.

Built my Stingray per tiled plan. Weight: 21gr. First flight with CG at recommended location proved to be tail heavy. Moved battery as far forward as possible. Still some tail heavy but flyable. Added a dime to the nose and velcroed a 1s battery to it. Got it to fly decent finally. Any wind reacts negativity on the plane. Will be flying it indoors Thursday. Should fly fine there.

My problem is that it is pretty uncontrollable and I think I know why. I set my radio to leave SAFE off but I think the AS3X is confused because the brick is mounted upside down. Ideally, I need to disable SAFE which I will do but I'm not sure how to "reset" AS3X to accept that "up is now down", etc.

If I can get that worked out, this is small/light enough to fly in my front yard and (theoretically) impress the neighborhood kids. The all up weight, even with the KFm2 section, is lower than the T28 from which the brick and motor came so it definitely has plenty of power
I did ultimately confirm that the board being upside down was the only problem. I built another small plank of similar design and, with the board right way up and programmed for elevons, it worked perfectly. I did not attempt SAFE so no idea what would happen but I definitely did get it to fly stably as a delta with elevons using only the two linear servos onboard the T28 brick. Now I just need to build another Micro Stingray but put that board on top.

If you can talk to that particular brick with the programmer it's easy to turn AS3X gains to 0 to permanently disable.

I see that Foam-Tac is recommended for the foam parts but, what adhesive should be used for the carbon rods?

FoamTac works fine on carbon inserted in foam like a spar (I use this) but CA is best for carbon to carbon or anything that shouldn’t flex in my experience.

I finally got her finished. Now I need a nice day for a maiden.
One question though, and I bet that it’s been covered before. Does this set up need any reflex?

Yes about 3 mm as I remember.

For initial flight the elevons should be set to neutral. Then adjust to your liking.

This is directly from the plans.
