Welcome to my nightmare, my first bike build

I've been building rc cars and trucks since the 80's. Been working on and building real bikes since before then. I've had some back problems for several years now and I've finally accepted the fact that I'll probably never throw my leg over another bike.
I usually have little money to work with, more often its NO money. So this build will involve a LOT of fabrication and recycling.
I made a trade deal online for a bike, I wound up with this

It's looking like I have enough to put one complete bike (minus rider) together with ball bearings in the wheels and gearbox. I'll have to cobble pieces together to make a fairing.
I could almost build another fairingless and riderless bike. I say ALMOST because I only have one MK1 swingarm and don't have enough hardware, and I don't have a set of bushings or bearings for the second set of wheels.
I'm thinking of selling the futaba rx/esc to fund some other small parts, and then trying to use one of my spare 1/10 esc's so I can try to run a bigger motor.
Guess we'll see :]

You ve got a MK1, so forget to use 300 size motors on it, except if you make another gearbox, the plastic of the original one doesn't resist the temperature of the gears and the bearings.

You can make a "Mr Light Venoman" to put on the mk1.
The description is somewhere in the gpv-1 thread (PDF)
I made one from filter foam for my mk1. It's softer than the original Venom rider and easier to fit the kyosho. The venom rider is ofcourse an alternative too.

thanks manuspain, that will save me some headaches :] Unfortunately the stock motors are shot, so I'll have to figure something out for that.

thanks for the tip z dad. could you post a pic of your filter foam project.

Here's my family. The one with the "full afro" is made from some filter foam I found. The white guys are made from packaging foam. The coloured one is finished off with a regular household iron to sculpt the crude cut piece.

They stay on the bikes by sitting on servo tape or shoe goo.
I plan to make a smaller rider for the mini z moto racer too. He will weigh in at, less, than 0,5 grams
If you dig up the pdf, you can make the printout in different sizes to get the pefect size for any bike. As I remember, the 1:12 goes at 80%

how about using ball bearings and using an aluminum plate for the gearbox?

You have some good parts there to work with...
And some good parts I would be interested in trading if you're keen...

I'm trying to get some particular parts for a couple of replica builds I've got goin...

And I have quite alot of stock parts for both the MK-1 and the HOR spare that could possibly get you running...

The parts I see in your bunch of bits I'm keen on would be the single sided swingarm, and the Suzuki fairings...

I have stock motors and lots of odd bits and peices...

If you're interested just let me know, and we might be able to sort something out...

Wow... Check that tin out... There's a piece of history there...

The swingarm is next to the tub of screws and stuff, in the third pic... There is quite alot small parts required for that, and of course a wheel to suit...

And the busted white fairings, and the seat unit on the right in the pic belong to the Suzuki...

I could happily get rid of a few parts if it helped me out in the long run

I think I've got things figured out.
For the silver chassis, I need to make a windscreen, make a patch for the front of the fairing, the only thing missing is misc screws and the front fender mounts.
I've got the electronics to run that with stock motor, ball bearings in wheels and gearbox.

Black chassis needs :
upper and lower fairing, wheel bearings, front axle, axle nuts, front fender and mounts, crash bars, left hand grip, and LOTS of misc screws and pins.
No electronics for this one yet.
And, HOR on the way,
as far as I know so far, needs handlebars, lower fairing and tank/seat section.
No electronics for it either.

So the PLAN is,
single sided swing arm and zuke fairings are going to Luke

Going to build the silver chassis stock and use it as a "trainer"
then build the black chassis as a static display model/spare parts stash
and finally build the HOR as heavily customized as I can afford, and hopefully brushless (LOTS of time, work , and research on that one)

Gotta go raid my paint stash and see what i've got to work with .

ok, got the silver chassis together. don't have any of the details on it yet, just the necessities for now. Unfortunately, it will only turn right :[
I also really don't like the way the servo fits, I guess it would help if I had a mini servo, but all I've got is a micro and full size.
