TP52 builders/sailors wanted

Hi there,

Looking for anyone that wants to build TP52's to the TP52 class rule in 1/12 or 1/10 scale. boats would weigh in at around 12lbs and be fast and light. They would also have assymetric chutes that would fly off the short sprits on the bow.

Looking to start racing in 2013.

Who wants to talk TP52's and start racing?

Transpac 52, big offshore grand prix boats for the uber-rich. Nice boats, fast downhill sleds, but seem pretty complicated for RC, especially the asymmetric.

TP52 sails well. Just finished a 1.7m based off my tp52 drawings. The only thing it's missing is a chute.

A chute is pretty easy to do, especially with an assym. Hoist and retrieval is the most complicated part. Sheeting is pretty easy and everything can be done with a six channel radio.

Simple boats are out there for the masses, but the elite of RC sailing... should be in model tp52's.... ;-) Big, fast, and fun.

ok so two rmg winches, one for the jib and main, and one for the genker sheeting. one arm winch with 3:1 percase ratio for halyard.

Sounds about right... The launcher is also the retrieval system, similar to skiffs.

Google TP52 to see the designs we are talking about.

If you want to see what the models look like, I have my 1.7m hull, minus rigging as a picture, to give you a style. The 1.7m is a little longer than what we are talking about, about 14" longer, and is a lot heavier at 22lbs. main and job only. more narrow.

a model with a long flat run, and an assymetric chute should be able to get up and go downwind and be exciting to control. The boat would be much lighter, and with an increased beam and the similar draft, a lot more powerful.

You could scale the boat up, to say, 1/6 scale, and build nine foot models and make this the new J Class... but it would get expensive.

52" gives you bigger boat excitement, a little more expense, but nothing that is too crazy. With all the real TP52's out there, plans are obtainable and I would be willing to clean my drawings up and reconfigure for RC scale and make them available for free. I'd also been keen to build a mould and offer hull and deck kits if there was interest.
