Hobby king steals from you with their gift certificates

Can you believe this - I was given a $200 gift certificate. I first used it to buy an $11 item. The next time I ordered another item, but the gift certificate did not work.

I asked HK why. They said "As the gift certificate code GC50IKJMXJ could only be used one time, if you did not use it full for product fee, it could not be used again"

BLOODY UNBELIEVABLE! I have lost $189. They have given me $11 in exchange for $200!

Cut and paste from HK shop:

Gift certificates are emailed to the account holder within 24hrs of Payment.
Gift certificates do not cover postage costs.
Gift certificates can be given to anyone.
If more than 1 certificate is purchased it will be grouped into 1 single code. Receiver can request the code to be split into smaller amounts.
Gift certificates are not refundable, transferable and can not be replaced.
Gift certificates must be redeemed in full

Berkie, just go to the support centre and get them to split it. Probably would have paid to read up on them first.

I have used their "Bug The Boss" option which is available to their so-called "Platinum/Elite" members. The message is supposed to go direct to an executive's cell phone, but as usual no response.

I am about to post it on the HK Forum

Its against the law in the USA to do what they are doing in regards to honoring the gift certificate. Part of the new rules put into place in the recent banking bills passed by congress.

Jon, there is no time limit on a HK certificate only that it must either be split by request or all used in one order.

Berkie, just put it up in the order support area, I'll be interested to see what they say.

I suspect if you speak to scott or one of the other office guys in there they will correct the issue. They won't dump you with a loss like that.

David Jones, Kmart, Harvey Norman, Toys'R'us all have a 1 use policy on gift vouchers....(Gift cards used at the point of sale (scan-able ones) are a different matter)

Why would hobbyking be any different?

Firstly, HK does not have the same reputation as those others, and secondly as part of that reputation you would be clearly warned at the time that any purchase less than face value of the cert. would result in a loss of the balance

Reputation has nothing to do with it! Rules be rules.

Harvey norman & Kmart do not mention single use when purchasing a gift voucher - it is in the fine print on the back of the gift cert. So no it's not pointed out - even with nation wide Aussie retailers.

Read the conditions of use.......It's clearly stated. You might not be aware of it but that doesn't change the facts.

I hope they sort it out for you - as a good will gesture.

Well what an absolute prick of a way to treat customers!

What other reason could there be to only allow single use? None other than their bloody greed.

Can you think of any legitamate reason for single use?

Not true, Target, K Mart., David Jones, Bunnings are ALL non-gestapo type stores that allow you to use the balance.
Check their web sites e.g. http://www.davidjones.com.au/FAQ/Gift-Card-FAQ

That's their 'gift card' - like a prepaid debit card & not a gift 'voucher' which is single use only....I notice DJ's are only doing cards now as are Bunnings & Kmart.
