New Product

Walkera Devo F7 FPV - 5.8 GHz real time Image monitor

I was just told about this. It sounds good.
I will see if I can get a sample to review.

You will have to let me know how this works out. I've got several FPV rigs here.

Of course, the question is...How Much$$

I see that Tony from X-Heli has a preproduction model with a Hoten-X:

Sneak Preview of the New FPV Hoten X from Walkera! (9 min 2 sec)

Wonder if we can use any 5.8gHz TX with this TX.

I might be able to use these instead of a Devo10 +LCD in my custom builds->

That does sound VERY cool but you know what? I'll pass...the problem with it is the transmitter still only has 100mW power, there's not much range. If you have a fpv setup you want some range. Walkera you listening????? You need a version for the U.S. that has more range.

Thanks for posting the video Tony.

How Much$$ - Good question.

The short range is a not good. It is not very far for a quad or airplane to fly out and take video.

Does anyone know what I need to do so when you click see full image it doesn't popup a window to image shack?

Hmmm. If I were you I would wait for V2 or V3:

- Camera & video transmitter look quite heavy. It is relatively easy to build a lot lighter (and probably much better) FPV system form individual parts.
- Antennas are vertically / horizontally polarized. Due to multipath reflections, 5.8GHz FPV transmitter & receiver will work much better with circular polarized antennas
- Bottom of the transmitter isn't practical location for the screen. You need to bend your neck and it will be outie difficut to see the picture in bright daylight. The screen is way too small as well.
- Range of Devo 7 Tx is poor (at least mine is but it may be receiver's fault as well). My FPV Walkera Mini CP goes to failsafe if I try to fly further than 250 m away.

What does this mean for the Devo protocol? Does it mean Walkera's going to be sticking with it for the long term? So far it supports telemetry (voltage, gps, etc.), and now it works with FPV as well?

Yep, at HobbyOne it is $368, however:

at OOModel it is $300:

and at Hobby-Wing it is $200:
...however that is probably tx only, not the whole package.

I think is has nothing to do with the 2.4GHz DEVO protocol.
It is probably simply using a commercial 5.8GHz video transmittion...

On a high end setup, the video telemetry, the voltage/gps/etc. telemetry, and the normal TX signal uses three different initialization/handshakes. If all three are integrated into one TX, even tho all three uses different frequencies, they're all managed or initialized by one primary protocol. A protocol isn't necessarily limited to a single medium, the one Android uses for high speed data transfer between phones for example runs off NFC and Wifi, two completely different systems.

Either way, on the previous generation, i'm only aware of two or three 2.4ghz transmitters. However, the new Devo transmitter family is growing from 4ch to 12ch, with optional extensions for system status telemetry, and now it's got the video added in as well. That's a lot of transmitters and functionalities invested in running off the Devo transmitters.

At least I expect this to be better than Hubsan SpyHawk. Seeing that Walkera is releasing two different size gliders with this setup. If these are good, as I trust walkera quality, these are going to kill Hubsan forever.

I shall get my sample of this setup with plane soon to review.

Does the camera/TX have a video record facility?

The description I read said it had a range of 200 to 300 meters and the video looks like its got quite a bit of range. People here say it only gets about 200 feet? Why is that, I mean what's the point if it only gets 200 feet.
