I think that's about all the power you'll get the EP-1 to handle, the bottom gears aren't very strong and piling on power will probably just strip them faster.

If you want a powerful outboard, look at the Stiletto lower unit, or a K&B or OS 3.5cc based lower leg, they'll take more power. You're going to need to run 4s and a motor around 1800-2000kv to wake the SV27 up, 2s just isn't enough voltage for the size of the hull.

Why not run an inboard . Less expensive , faster , more reliable . I've set up two OB conversions to date both were very expensive to do . The OS lower leg was 150.00 and the conversion kit for the motor is 36.00 . And you still need a motor . The stock SV27 is capable of high 30s to low 40s . You can find a used SV27 for less then what it will cost for a fast and reliable OB conversion . Just my two cents .

Check out his other thread, he just made a power trim system for the outboard on the SV27.

I have harder gears for the ep-1,the gear maker is running 3300 kv motor on 3s lipo with a 37 mm prop,no problems sofar.
And yes i built up power trim....the ep-1 is staying alive on my not looking to break speed records, just a reliable 30 or so mph scale outboard.
Thanx for the other suggestions though,im gonna find the right motor prop combo for my current rig.

You'll have a hard time getting 30mph out of it on 3s without drawing a lot of amperage.

I tried power trim on one of my tunnel boats this was many years ago .A lot of guys tried it and every body went back to no power trim. Just to much trouble in race water . For what you want it will work .I am not familiar with the EP1 out board unit . Do you have to run gears or can you run it with no gears and with a 3665 or 3674 2000kv motor and 4s lipo . That would get you into the high 30s or low 40s . Just don't know if that unit can take that kind of power ?

The ep1 runs 1:1 gear ratio,my friend is running his with 3300 kv on 2s and 3s,he can hit
35.his boat is pretty big.
Its on youtube 4.7 zodiac i think.
I think ill try ....maybe a 33-3900 kv with various props on 3 s.

If this is the one you mean, it's pretty quick, but that's not 35mph.

His english isnt quite up to par, hard to understand.i misunderstood what he said.
He does have upgraded gears and brushless though.running 2s and 3s lipo in that gi joe zodie.

I hate to discourage people but you will never see 35MPH with that combination .That much kv with 3s is not going to swing much prop.

You also have to consider how big of a prop will even fit on the outboard unit...
