Thanks Dick, it will be Very well looked after, I will convert from 72Mg to 2.4GhZ set up, a small plane servo hidden somewhere, it will be safe and reliable.

I am gonna ask some folks about what to takes to have a "refurb/upgrade" tab created.

Can we do that ourselves ?

looks like a well built boat like you said. What will be involved with the refurb besides electronics? Any paint work? One thing I think would make the boat pop is if you brought the paint all the way back on the cap, it would make the toe rail in the bow more visible and the cabin sides more pronounces.....If your trying to keep it original I see no problems with that.

Sterling was bought out by Cox Estes. A hobby shop in town has a Cox Estes Sterling sailboat kit (the one smaller than the Kingfisher).

Now Estes Cox has been assimilated too, by Hobbico.

Hi again Tim,
A little history on the Sterling Monterey. I built it in 1954 or 1955. I was 12 or 13 and living in Detroit. I changed the outboard to inboard and filled in the cutout in the transom and redid some of the paint { the hull white and copper} in I think the mid 70's. Before I painted the hull originally, I covered it with model airplane tissue to help fill the grain and strengthen it. I sold the two outboards I had. An Evinrude that was red and white and a green Mercury with the fluted stainless cover. I wish I had kept them.
Are you starting a Sterling Museum?? I think it's great. Keep posting pictures
Dick

To have a seviceable model thats almost 60 years old is Amazing, a tribute to your abilities.

I will take very good care of it.

Between myself and a few others here, we will have just about all of them covered !

There is hope for the future of our craft.

Tim B- In post #116 of this thread you have a picture posted of what looks like a “STEEL CRAFT” CABIN CRUISER. To my knowledge there has never been a model kit built of this boat. Could be a interesting build.
