I thought it was God's way of telling you that you are flying too slow!

The short version

As speed decreases the wing area with the least cord (distance from leading to trailing edge) will lose lift. Washout (decreased A.O.I. at the tip) is one of the things used to attempt to prevent/minimize this. A potential loss of aileron control due to this is one of the big reasons you NEED to know how to use your rudder (less aileron use means less drag on the wing which keeps it flying). Once the area of loss exceeds the ratio necessary to keep the wing flying, that wing will stall tip first and potentially ruin your day.

Hope that helps.

Sorry guys you've got it all wrong!

A "tip stall" is nothing more than a pilot waiting for someone else to pick up the dinner/bar tab.

Pretty nice. Better then I could do for sure, but those pictures are not really accurate. For Example. Kidd Hofer's QP-L was shown and it was missing the custom white wall tires and nickname Kidd on the wheel cover.

it's like when you ride a bike too slow and you fall off it.

a tip stall should be treated just as if you were driving a car and you hit a pole while going under the speed limit. unless a moose or a human jumped out in front of you after a blind corner, you should be charged with careless driving and driving a big suv that has crappy handling and bad brakes is no excuse

Love it. Good analogy. IMO most RC planes are screaming, "I'm about stall you idiot!" before they actually do. I've seen so many inexperienced RC pilots stall one and dump it and look at their TX etc and then check the plane to see whats wrong with it.

BTW I dumped that Art Tech T-6 in similar fashion. I was in the landing pattern with half flaps deployed and was near stall speed and in a moment of stupidity I hit full flaps and it slowed it just enough for that god awful T-6 stall. Smack! right into the parking lot. End of one T-6
