100" fsw

Figured I'd do something fun, so I built two 100 inch span forward swept flying wings for HHAEFI. All EPP. Total weight is about 13 or 14lbs give or take. I dont have a good enough scale to get a proper weight yet so Im guessing.

Power is Castle Creations ESC and BEC, 6S 5000s with a Himax 5030 outrunner.

Im sure there will be a few videos of it after this weekend.

Thats right! This one is "Go medium sized or go home". I'll get to BIG again later on when I have more time.

Easy way? Whats that?

Motor home still looks the same... just cleaner and running better. Paint job and interior "freshening" is a year or 3 away.

I am 5' 6 and 3/4" tall thank you! ;-) In the box on that one is an AXI 4120, the other identical plane has a Himax 5030.

However, we found out that the mount cant take the motor torque on launch... time to beef it up a bit.

Well, after tearing up the motor mount... 3 times, due to the motor torque, we still havent gotten this 100" beast off the ground for longer than a few seconds. Yesterday I used some epoxy and added some hardwood stock as reinforcement on the inside of the mount. I do believe we will have a flight today.

The only way to make things like this work is trial and error, if you dont try, you'll never fly.

Thanks CrashMeUp.

Flight on Sunday was going well. The motor mount held fine, however, the foam around the mount, not so much. A bit of damage to the nose thats no big deal, but, it crushed a wing tip pretty badly when it landed. So, I may end up just clipping the wings on #1 down about 12" per side.

#2 is still awaiting servos. I have them on the shelf, but, dont need to install them until I find all the weak parts in #1. Once the bugs are worked out, I'll mod #2 and get it in the air.

So, #1 will be the test bed I guess.

If you know me well, Im not one to give up on anything. So, no worries there. They will fly. What they will look like or what mods will be done, well, who knows. But I can assure you they will fly.
