Question

Legionair "Shuttle"

Nostalgia guys. Is Cecil Haga's Legionair 132" Shuttle nostalgia legal? How about the 78" Shuttle? Bill

Yup... Cecil Haga asked me to build one for him... and I refused. I ended up building the wings for him...Yes, I'm THAT old...

I watched Cecil Haga fly a Shuttle in the Tangerine about 1977 or 78. And I was as old as Cecil when I watched him fly the Shuttle.

I too remember watching them being flown back then. Was thinking all the time, "GAWD THAT'S UGLY"!

I was flying my Sagitta 900 along side Gordy Stahl's 'new' Shuttle last Thursday night. It's so ugly it's kind of cute.

78 is for sure, I have plans dating back that far. (Gotta be the easiest 2m to see that was ever made...)

I've seen an ad for the 100, there was a 132 as well!? Egad..
Y'know, with that huge trusswork fuselage, a 100 would make an awesome night fly airplane...

Didn't look like a typical Legionair Shuttle launch. The wing tips should have flexed upward about
two feet for a winch launch. Bill

I'm pretty certain the wing was built to be winchable.

dion My statment was a bit of humor. The Legionairs were known far and wide for extreme
wing flexure on launch. The wing tips would flex upward several feet on a good winch launch.
Many times fellow flyers who had not seem a Legionair launch would shout out in great alarm to
ease up on the winch because I was going to fold the wings. The wing structure was very strong and also flexable.Inboard section had a 1/2" al tube spar and tip panel used hard balsa I beam spar with shear webs (lite, strong, & flexable). When the flexable wing was under discussion Cecil would say "Better bent than broken".
For those of you that don't know Cecil, Jack (Shrederman) and I were good flying buddys
during the 70's, 80's & 90's here in Fort Worth. Weather permitting we would go fly ever
weakend. Those were good times that generate great memories. Bill
