Armattan Quads Announcement: Upgrade Parts
First off, I'm not a vendor. I have been building and selling a few quads lately, but most of the buyers are new pilots who have experience flying the toy-grade RTF quads and who want to move forward into the hobby. My quads are priced low and the specs offer good performance. That said, I'm still not a vendor. I'm a trader. I just started building quads from scratch and I call them Armattan models because I think it's nice to name the models. I like the name, too. Armattan is the name of a warm African wind, by the way. I build myself and sell cheap to help out and this helps me out a bit, too. I work for under 10$/hr to make these things by the time I pay for shipping. So this is hardly lucrative.
Anyways, so far only two people managed to break one. Me, and one fellow who bought a frame. I want to clarify that these machines are NOT unbreakable. They are strong but the center plates are polycarbonate so a hard crash can shatter them. I crash mine all the time and I've only broken the center plates once, but the bottom line is it can happen. So why am I writing this. Well, because it's my understanding that people who buy these quads/frames from me expect them to be very tough. Most are beginners who expect to crash and hope to have something strong enough to live through crashes. Truth is, nothing is unbreakable when it comes to quadcopters so you can't expect my frames to be any different. Don't get me wrong, this is not a post directed at someone who complained about the build durability. No one complained, period. Only praises so far. It's just me making sure people know that my build are tough but they are not indestructible as some people seem to think. Perhaps this is because they look tough, and because I show crashes in most of my videos. That being said, I was thinking about making these frames "almost" unbreakable and the way to do this is to look at the weak area; the polycarbonate center plates. So I ordered some metal today and I will soon be making alumi center plates that will fit all the Armattan quads I have built, and will build in the future. I honestly think that with metal center plates, my frames will be the most crash resistant frames available on the market. The downside is the weight addition but this can easily be worked around with good specs and motors that can handle the load. All the quads I build have a huge amount of thrust and can handle the load very easily and still outperform all these ready to build kits out there. So... In the future, people will have the option to get metal upgrade parts (center plates) for my frames. I should have some ready in about 10 days. Here's a video in which I'm using a polycarbonate lower plate with an alumi top plate. Let me know if you have any questions and any feedback from those who bought my build is welcome. Good or bad. (sorry, I wasn't sure where to post this and this is where potential buyers might find this information useful) Best, Chris

What's wrong with being a vendor? You make fine products at fair prices and you constantly help people out here in the forums; I don't see why you should have to be concerned about the semantics.
I have been watching your listings and I agree that everything you have posted looks to be great quality at a really great price. The people that buy from you are indeed getting great deals and, of equal importance, you seem to be rolling the proceeds back into making better next-gen products. Call yourself a vendor or trader, I will still be pointing people in your direction when they want a RTF quad. |

Thanks for the kind words. Bottom line is vendors have businesses and they sell stuff. Me? I don't stock quads or frames. I build one and I post it. I may not build anything for a while and then maybe I'll build two of them. It's a hobby for me, not a business. If it were a business, then I would be a darn poor businessman. So yeah, I'm definitely not a vendor. I'm a modeler, a hobbyist and a trader.
I don't really use proceeds to improve models, either, by the way. I'm just constantly looking for new materials to make the quads stronger and lighter, that's where it's at. I just bought me some 2.5mm carbon fiber sheeting to build one for me with CF center plates. (not cheap!) Now THAT is going to be one sweet machine, but I don't think I'll be able to offer such builds in the classifieds for two reasons. 1- It would be too expensive and 2- I wouldn't want to work with CF for long periods of time. CF dust is nasty for you. I have to wear a mask and after I finish I have to wipe my entire shop and vacuum everything. That's despite cutting, filing and drilling wet. Yuk. Cheers! Chris |

Ok I see the difference.
Yeah the CF material is nasty to work with. I merely drilled a few holes in some CF arms for a tricopter this summer and, because my hands were a bit sweaty and I didn't know the dangers of CF dust, I ended up with a nasty rash on each hand that took two months to go away. Obviously, there are ways to work safely with this material, however. I live in Seattle, WA where Boeing manufactures most of their aircraft. As you can imagine, there are lots of shops around here that work with CF. I have been asking around for a cost-effective solution for getting CF parts made. I will keep everyone posted. Good luck selling your quads. They are beauties! |

Great information and video. All I know is that you make strong and powerful quads. Nothing designed to fly is really designed to crash. That's why they don't make bumper planes (like bumper cars)
As the owner of 2 of your custom quads, one which i received yesterday and the other on the way, I can tell you the one I have looks and feels very solid, but lightweight. I will def take some of the SS plates please. Can you paint SS? |

I'll be in for a 250 size (or to be an Armattan I guess it needs to be something like 261.4 ) once I get some time on the crab 25 I got from you.
I'm glad you are not a vendor as usually the attributes you show are lost through a vendor ( which is understood). The fact that you are so dedicated to helping others learn and step to the next level speaks volumes and is why when I'm in the market and you have what I'm looking for I'll seek out buying from you before ever just buying from some website/vendor. Your investment of time towards helping others is extremely appreciated. |

I gotta jump in here and give Chris some props (praise, not propellers ). I just bought a quad from him and still haven't gotten it yet... but I'm sure I'll love it. As stated above, I've just been so impressed by the amount of time Chris spends on helping people out. Also the fact that he makes a full video for a lot of the stuff he sells blows me away. And even more, when he sells used stuff, HE'S HONEST! He goes into a lot of detail, talks about crashes he's had, etc, etc. I just can't say enough about how helpful and friendly this guy is. Can't wait to start flying the quad I bought from him.
