Robert, thanks for the good words. The break is perfectly clean so, it should glue together nicely. I had already put a 1 mm carbon rod along the TE of the aileron and that kept the failure there down to a clean break near the proximal end.

I had wondered about the wisdom of extending the provided spar out to the wing floats. I knew that a strike on the wing float would put a good bending load on the wing, at spar's end... and it did. If someone follows my footsteps, I advise them to extend the wing spar out to the floats and to tie the float to the spar.

Now, I'm debating the wisdom of buying a new NPS kit and making a new wing, versus adding more weight to this aircraft.

I took the Rufe out twice, earlier this summer, getting two flights off water and five hand launched and landing on grass. She did very well.

Today I took her out and flew her twice from grass, takeoffs and landings. She handled wonderfully. I think I have the right balance of throw and expo... and, I have a year's more flying experience.

I had my 'hatcam' turned on but misaligned the camera. I'll take her again soon and get some more video.

I took the Rufe out Saturday morning and flew from short grass wet from a passing rain. I had a great time with it. The friction from the grass was very slight. For takeoff, I would go to 3/4 power and give the Rufe a slight push from behind, with my foot--and away she would go. I was even able to do several "slide and go's" on the grass runway.

I'm beginning to think about building another Rufe, or two.

For one, I'm considering a "Ruf-e-fur-cation" to the Flyzone Aircore Zero using a built up, balsa-sheeted main float.

For the other, I'm looking at various 48-50 inch plans and foamy ARFs.

Any update or build log on the aircore "rufe?" I swear I saw a picture of one somewhere, and want to put one together now that I have the zero airframe.

Love the look of these sea planes, your gws is a sharp model.

No update. I have purchased the Aircore Zero and have flown it a couple of times. I had my Rufe out a couple of weeks ago for my Club's Electric Fly-in. I hand launched her 3 times and bets were taken over whether I could skid the landing. I nosed over two of three.

I just have too much on my plate. I've been flying at every opportunity and just keeping up with the normal wear leaves little time left over for my 55 Special build, or rather... rebuild, since I wrecked the fuselage on the first landing, a couple of weeks ago.

I think it important to note that a new Zero/Rufe plan just appeared on Outerzone

I wanted everyone to know that the Rufe is still flying. I keep a tally log of flights for each of my planes. Every 10 flights, I do a full inspection of hinges, mounting bolts, electrical connections, and the like

The Rufe just finished its "50-flight" inspection.

Usually, I hand launch it at the club field, and it has become a betting sport to see if I can land on the grass without tipping over. Since I increased the up elevator throw to 120% and land at 25% throttle, I get about 60% upright landings-reinforcing the tip of the rudder to accommodate "adverse outcomes".

New Tex Rc Mitsubishi Zero Warbird Preview (6 min 8 sec)

It is ready to maiden. I'll be looking to see if a Rufe conversion is possible.
It comes with a drop tank... and a display stand... and the attach point may be a nice main float attachment.

Today marked the 100th successful flight of the Rufe. The plane is looking a little rugged and the main float attach points are getting a little loose. I believe it has a few more flights in it.

Thanks for the continuous update, Im making one myself just for kicks. My Rufe is nearly complete, but Im having trouble with the CG with this one. I need more nose weight even though the battery is a 3s 1500mah.

You are welcome. I had to shove my battery (3s 800) all the way to the firewall, carving out some space; and still needed over 40g of weight in the cowl. Had I thought about it, I would have put weight in the nose of the float.
