The Askant was designed and produced out of Huntington Beach California, just down the road from the west wind Costa Mesa Estancia bluffs.
It was a great medium to heavy weight sloper, dependent on loading.
One weak point was the fuse just at the TE. Would be best to reinforce it. Fine in flight and normal landings, but loaded and really loaded up, a little side slide on landings, then crack or snap.
For the life of me I cannot remember the very nice older gentleman's name, friend at the time and we flew often together before he passed.
I remember talking with him in his garage/workshop/Askant production area. He shared that he was dying as a result of years of composite chemical use. Paint, thinners, resins, so on an so on. RIP
Time, about early to mid 80's.

The designer and the owner of Aeronautics Inc. name was Dennis, I forgot his last name now, fortunately I still have a NIB Askant and a Firefly, which was a 60" version of Askant. Dennis had shared with me the fact that his health was failing as a result of exposure to all the years of chemicals, and because back then, it wasn't really known that these model making chemicals were so harmful to one's health, that's why back in the day, we routinely handled these materials without gloves/respirators, and wasn't diligent about cleaning up after exposure.

Ah, Dennis, thank you.

Gloves and respirators, not back in the day for a common worker unless dealing with organic chemicals. I am still surprised why I am still alive.

Dennis's sharing did increase my awareness much.
He aided me with far more then nice ships and friendship.
