It's 5:12 AM central on 10/12/2012. The vote is now 97 for a new thread, 10 against. Is that good enough to get the new forum started? I sure hope so!

"Plans' means somebody else drew them but you selected and printed and cut out the wood.

"Kit" means you're building to somebody else's plans and they selected the wood. They may have printed the parts on the wood, and perhaps even cut the parts for you.

Within kits there are "short kits" (they provide the cut parts, you provide the sticks and sheets) and "full kits" (they provide the sticks and sheets too).

Then you have ARC's (almost ready to cover) and then ARFs.

Finally you have RTF's.

So what do you have when you buy somebody else's design that he built but sold to you ready to fly??

Answer: Too much money!

Are these definitions important enough that they have been written in blood at some strategic, centrally located, model airplane shrine? Do I have to live my life by these definitions? Is it that important?

No shrine needed, I just worked off dictionary definitions:

See item 32 for "scratch" - http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/scratch?s=b

See items 4 & 5 for "plans" - http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/plans?s=t

See number 4 for "kit" - http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/kit?s=t

Now, if you don't like those definitions, you can just make up your own language. If you read magazines for real builders such as Flying Models, you will find the same terms used in the same manner. Not always consistently, but consistently-enough.

My 20% Zlin 526 build will go here. It is a plans, short kit, scratch build

It is not a LONG KIT, ARC, ARF, or RTF. I hope it qualifies

I've changed my mind-I'm going to finish the 1/3 scale Super Cub that was highly modified into a mid wing aerobatic aircraft. -Scaled up plans built.

I'm Ready !

We got a couple dozen build clinic threads that can go in the new forum right now as soon as it is up and running.

Nice work gentlemen. I'm sure this new forum will be very beneficial for RCG users and I am glad to see a forum dedicated to building model airplanes. This has been a long time coming. I have seen this tried many times in my seven years here and this is the first successful attempt to date. Good to know that building model airplanes is still a viable aspect of our sport.

There are already dozens of fora dedicated to the building of model aeroplanes i, which make up the RC Groups website and there have been for many years, This is just yet another forum.

Are we really to believe that folks have been sitting on build threads and not posting them prior to the creation of this duplicate forum which essentially replicates a subset of the topic matter of The Builder's Workshop, as well as many other fora? If that is the case then it is a very sad state of affairs.

Dozens? Really? I see zero dedicated forums for building model airplanes. And before someone says there are two foam forums, this is about balsa built airplanes so that doesn't count.
