Finally, Some Good News from Iraq

SAMARRA, Iraq American forces fended off an attempted ambush Sunday, killing at least 46 Iraqis and capturing eight others in the northern city of Samarra. At least five U.S. soldiers, 22 Iraqi attackers and a civilian were injured.

American troops were fighting off tightly coordinated, simultaneous attacks in the northern Iraq, the U.S. military said.

Many of the dead Iraqi attackers were found wearing uniforms of the Fedayeen, a militia loyal to Saddam Hussein, according to Lt. Col. William MacDonald of the 4th Infantry Division.

Quite! Surely this is just another symptom of the deteriorating security situation.

Current reports suggest that many of the dead were civilians.

Civilian?

Does this mean that if a man or woman for that matter is in civilian clothes and shooting at you ,you should not shoot back

Look at it as an example of Darwinian selection in action!
The non-combatant will depart the area, the violent will approach.. to kill, or loot or mutilate the dead as they so bravely do... And get shot for their efforts.
The gene pool improves.

The good news is that there are now 47 less killers to attack our troops tomorrow!

Cool, now if we could just re-instate the "Body count" policy of Vietnam.

The only good news about this is that no Americans were killed. If the Iraqi civilians wish to syop being caught in the cross fire, perhaps they should decide what side they are on. If the attacks would stop for 12 months, Iraq would be in the hands of Iraqis.

Sounds a lot like how the west was won. "The only good indian is a dead indian" It's good to hear that the frontier spirit is alive and well and living in Arizona.

Good grief, have you read any history of american indians? Even a classic comic book would provide enough information that you wouldn't make a statement like that.

Useful Idiot
It seems the attack was on a convoy carrying new currency and the Iraqi civilians involved were accompanying the convoy.
The seven Spanish killed in an ambush on Saturday would make the title of this thread jar over here. It seems popular support for the terrorists/insurgents/resistance is growing, at least among the Sunni section of the population, and that is very bad news

The majority of civillian support for the insurgents is among the youth, a part of the population that has known no other form of government. Many of the disperser militia members are in this age bracket and being now unemployed, are causing the majority of the problems.

The attacks (there were multiple, not a single ambush) were staged along planned routes and it appears to have been planned in advance. I would not be surprised if there were intel leaks that allowed this to happen. And it wouldn't surprise me if this was a trap set by the US forces.

In the past month, the sapper attacks were targets of opportunity, some of command negligence, others of pure surprise. The common element was a hastily planned, small element attack on unprepared, lightly armored troops. This time was different as IFV's and MBT's were in convoy.

Just wish that people would stop finding it necessary to kill each other! We are sure happy to believe that people's lives are cheap. *Sigh*
