Hobby King Sbach 342 v2 balsa 1000mm

Hey guys,
I got one of these arriving today so I'm gonna go ahead start and new thread.
From reading about the V1, hopefully the factory has fixed the issues. The way to tell the difference from V1 to V2, on the H.K. site, there are two(2) 1000mm Sbachs. V1, which actually looks nicer with a tinted canopy and black LG legs, is the non-engineered, tail heavy, barely flyable one. V2 looks the same without the tinted canopy, and has aluminum landing gear legs. All I'll do is tint the canopy, shoot the legs with some gloss black(maybe), and bamn.
P.S. bonus points for the first person to find the other major cosmetic difference.
Specs:
Wingspan: 1000mm
Length: 975mm
Flying Weight: 600g~650g

Includes:
CD Rom Instructions
Decals

Requires:
Your Own 4 Channel TX/RX
4 x 9g Servo
20A ESC w/BEC
1300mAh 3s Lipoly Battery
2836 Brushless Outrunner (200w Min)
45mm Spinner

That's one sharp looking airplane! I almost ordered the orange/black foam one from HK but instead went with a 3DHS 47" Extra SHP. But I love the Sbach look. I hope you really enjoy your beautiful new Sbach

Well guys,
Let me just say..If your'e thinking about getting this little rocket, get it.
The weight issue from V1 is all but gone. I've got a 650kv 28mm outrunner that weighs right around 100g with a 4s 2200 mAh that weighs 240g. Balances out perfectly with the Bat. just in front of the carbon wing spar. 11x7 prop and a 45A ESC, unlimited vertical with 1/2 throttle! 0, I'm mean no trim added. Flew like it was on rails. AUW 2lbs 4oz or 1020 grams.
Pics and video to come shortly..

Time to strenghten

Just like my 1.4m Foamie Sbach, the nose front behind the firewall decided to separate itself from the rest of the fuselage. No crashes, but just became weak after numerous not so smooth landings. 1/2 hour fix

Kevin,

I am not sure exactly what you mean when you say the V2 "weight issue from V1 is all but gone". Do you mean it has been solved or that it is still just as much as a problem on V2 than it was on the V1?

If so, was there any other difference from the V1 to the V2 besides the cosmetic ones?

Thank you very much.

Best regards,
Daniel

On the HK website I saw 2 Sbach avail.

One for $80 plus change and another for $85 plus change. The $85 version was (still is?) out of stock. I think the only difference is one is with hardware and the other is without.
Or is the more expensive the V2?

Thinking of getting the $85 model. Don't know which one, but one of them is flown at my field with a Eflite 480 motor. It is fast and handles well.

Daniel,
V1 had a weight issue. Being so tail heavy that by the time it's balanced, it' AUW very heavy. Read post #1

I..don't own this 342, but be careful of HK when buying a 3D plane. I had high hopes for the 'Ultra Light Edge 540'.

It will do most everything just ok. This has a lot of wing rock in harrier, but generally does everything else somewhat ok. I messed around with the CG, then added the Velox SFGs from old 3DHS plane, then added some reflex to try to mitigate the rock, but it didn't help much. I'm not a EF or 3DHS fan, but I will pay for a better plane next time.

When I sell it, I'll probably get $125 for this receiver ready with $250 spent with Turnigy components. If I'm lucky.

Edit: I retract my initial impressions from before, and don't recommend this plane for serious 3D ppl. It flies ok, but it isn't a <cough> 3DHS or EF plane, much as I hate to admit it. Not a serious 3D flier, but I've flown the 48" Velox v1 and 2, Vyper, Edge 540, and a few others.

Edge 540

If nothing else, it's a beautiful airplane. It seems like a lot of models, the prettier they are on the ground, the more issues they have in the air.
From what I've read/heard through the grapevine was that the V1 Sbach was just scaled down from a 35% gasser. No engineering involved.Just shrunk the plans down. Still had a solid wood empenage and all the extra braces/support beams for a 50CC gas motor which added a lot of extra un-needed weight. Not cool when it's a 40" electric.

So, does anyone recommend a specific (brand/model) ESC, Outrunner and Spinner?

All seems great build quality is the same as my fliteworx edge 540 so I'm happy with that and it is a little bit sturdier which isn't an issue as the edge is super light and a calm day only model
