ROBAN Kit BlackHawk conversion to BattleHawk 600 size

Hello all,

As you maybe know I have now a BlackHawk from Roban instead of Aerodyne ordered by the German store Scaleflying.de on my workbench.
Great Guy is running that shop.

It arrives well packed and without any damage

Don't get me wrong this not my workbench My Wife will get me then...

I did not much so far because I'm busy to find out the best setup, parts, tail rotor, head, blades etc.

Now I stumbled to this motor from HK its a 480KV and looks promising
I want to run it with this ESC I have bought and on 12 cells.
Target head-speed 1400 rpm ? with 700 size blades

I like to go lower to 1100 if possible, so if you have any suggestions.

The Tail will be an angled one with a output of 1 to 1.25 so the Tail is running faster then the main blades, the plan is to use huge tail blades (120) so this faster output is a good thing or not in compare with the blades? don't know. I have to try that.

I have not done anything yet on the fuselage but in my mind is a lot going on

Regards,

Jan,

Have you Google reviews on that ESC? A few people were having issues with it...
Are you going with flex- cable or torque tube onvthi one? The 480 kv is a good motor.... Not so sure about the esc... I would go with a known esc for such a project..

Hi Jose,

Thanks for the remark about the ESC however there are also good reviews from the ESC and Jay uses also one successfully.
And Align, CC have or have had there issues but I will keep a close look at the ESC but I really appreciate your input about this

Then I will use the Smartmodels torque tube raised tail gear as I also use in my Apache. Because its looks and feels better than the Aerodyne however the elbow gear from them runs smooth

I will only use the lowered gear train from Aerodyne and will fly the hole setup first in pot and boom setup.

Jan,
Cool, let us know how that ESC works out. It does look great for the price. How difficult is to program?
I have seen it before but was hesitant to get it as it was a new esc and not many reviews in either direction... Will keep an eye on that one. Keep us informed

I was under the impression that Aerodyne sold the SmartModel torque tube tail drive? Are they actually different?

Yes they are the same, but with the BlackHawk they sell there own gear and thats not the SM gear.

SM gear the aft elbow part,

The RCA elbow part,

And this the parts of the RCA lowered gear train to put the output for the tail 70mm lower than the stock Align position.

Hi Jack,

You only need the horizontal tail boom tube (stock Align tube) and a piece of a second tube for the vertical part. the inner torque tubes are provided in the raised tail gear unit.
