Took my beater Blaster and newly repaired Zone V2 out to the DESS field in Wilson, NC and had a blast. Need to work on trimming the Zone and got help from the DESS guys in getting the Blaster sorted again. I'm new to DLG and having a blast with it. Best of all, I came back with all my ships intact for once!

The wing is way too flimsy to withstand any sort of discus-ing, and the v-tail I'm sure would lead to some interesting yaw-roll coupling (or whatever the fancy term for that is) on launch It didnt really hurt my arm that bad, but I knew I had been throwing it. It felt like I had been throwing a tennis ball as hard as I could all afternoon. Anyway, even if I could discus it, I probably would still over-hand it. Its like throwing a paper airplane into a thermal, it puts a whole new level of difficulty on the task of catching a thermal.

Kyle,

I am sure that we all could benefit in adding javelin launch during our practice. Either that or do a 1/2 power launch or less. It adds a new challenge that makes you really work at getting those low level thermals and probably helps on those days when lift is very light.

There's a wise sage around here that likes to say "Launch high, fly low". That is a great practice strategy. Launch as hard as you can, dive the plane down to 50 ft and go find lift

Nothing. It's been cold, and damp, and generally lousy sailplane weather all week here.

(I did fly it in some light slope lift off some big dunes on Cape Cod last weekend....that was cool!)

Where exactly did you fly? And which way was the wind coming from? I was up there three weeks ago. Tough to find a good place to slope.

Ordered my Blaster3 then continued reading the Blaster thread only to realize that the recommended DS09 servos might not fit in the pod. Oops!

DS09 will be a tight (impossible?) fit.
JR DS285 will fit fine.

ENE wind; I was at Newcomb Hollow Beach....because Whitecrest and Cahoon were full of paragliders and LeCount Hollow was full of combat wings (I'm not comfortable flying in a crowd yet).

I'll PM you with some flying sites. Off-season there's something for most wind directions. In the summer the beach crowds get in the way.

the DS09's will fit in the B3, couple of my buddies installed my equivalent of the 09's in their B3's and it works great.
Then again, you can't go wrong with the 285's too!

*YESTERDAY* I flew with some friends in Guangzhou about 3 hours away from my place in Hong Kong.
Nasty conditions with the field immediately downwind of a large hill with lot's of trees, damn! Not a good time to maiden a super light plane in.
BUT, it was sure fun as hell and helped me improve my piloting skills!!
It was the first time I used RUDDER (!!!!!!!) in a while, sometimes it feels natural and sometimes I feel like I'm doing something hard like calculus... definitely need to work on my left thumb again. It's really fun adding that extra dimension though.
Actually....please forgive me.... both planes I maidened yesterday had rudders....
