I've always wondered how the F35 maintains its stability on the vertical take off. Any thoughts how this is controlled?

First of all nice and ambitious project, just keep whittling at it Second of all, that is mighty generous of you to offer the modell for others. I know it has taken many hours to build and to get it to this point. It has revealed to me just lately how good a tool the su is. My short CAD experience is with the Inventor and the like so I am kinda awed by what can be done with a relatively cheaper software.

It looks like you have already started to figure it out, but you will need a better than 1:1 thrust to weight ratio. Also how have you addressed roll control during the hover? On the Harrier this is done via small jet outlets at the tips of the wings. Of course that requires ducting to the wing tips plus a control system for those. I'm not sure how roll is controlled on the F-35, but probably a similar system. Yaw and pitch are also controlled in the same manor in the Harrier.

Just a thought, would work in a bigger model better because of the added weight but anyway. How about putting in an air tank, put airlines all the way to the wingtips and point them down. A separate valves to drive each wing via gyro and voila you have the same function as the real deal. To take the idea further, you could do some fancy programming and have them work also with the aileron stick when the jet nozzle is pointed down and to disable them in level flight.

Hi Mixjsj,

You are right about the limited air quantity. In a bigger model you could use bigger tanks and shutting off the system when in level flight might help too. Your idea sounds fascinating too. You can always shut the bleed air chanels from the ducts too for level flight and get a cleaner flow for that purpose. Quote me not, I'm no expert Yet this is the place where they are so I think you'll get this sorted
