Sunny warm, variable wind

Long time no sail. Havent flown much this summer, been busy. Fished more.
Anyway, got a chance to get out today as I needed to fly some packs I had charged earlier in the week. Got to the field and the wind seemed to be up all of a sudden so I ran a few packs thru my se5a instead. Then I noticed all the buzzards...and the fact that the strong wind kept changing directions....
Launched the Radian and appeared to launch right into sink....then found my first thermal and up she went. 41 minutes later she came back down. Not a bad welcome back.

Hi guys.

Its been a long time since last entry and flight. Summer in Greece is really harsh with that high temps.

So here we are

Topmodel Albatros 2,4E
Thermal
17/Sep

Spata, Athens - Greece

Actually I went out, after I ve made some changes on the plane, making it a little lighter 1720gr from 1830gr. Mfg gives it up to 1750gr the e version. So I was heavy, but still thermals here could keep it up for ages...! I might try to make it a little more lighter, with an estimate of 1650gr the best I might do.

Weather was overcast at the time of flight, but we had sunshine until 14:00. Some showers were poured, just before I went out (17:00). Temp variation was 19c to 26c up until 17:00, while winds were 5 to 8 knots ESE.

With all the above, I didn't expect to find any thermals, but that prooved to be wrong. Buzzards, swallows etc were all up high, and all I did was just to follow them. It could be an endless flight, well over an hour, but had to abort, as a thunderstorm was aproaching fast. At the time I landed, rain started again

Dang it, 320, I have enough battery to match you but just haven't been getting out for real good lift or I've gotten carried away with aerobatics. Speaking of which; how does the little Sea Fury fly? It's, arguably, my favorite warbird ever but I'm a little wary of such a small one. Although I did have a 36" HoB P-47 that flew like a dream for the ten flights or so before the old Tee Dee wore out and the accrued aborted launches just prevented me from rebuilding it any more.

Peter,
Apparently you are only posting the top times in each category. Previously, the second, third, and all of the lesser entries were left posted under each category, in the order of top time highest in the list.

It's your contest now, so your preference, but I like to see all of the entries for each month listed on the leaderboard. To do that you just paste each new entry in the spot corresponding with the flight time.

Otherwise there is no point in my posting an entry which does not take first place, and this might bring participation down.

That makes sense, JS. Thanks. I probably should have observed more than a single month before taking over but I'll get it sorted out. I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment but I'll work on it this evening.

That's a lot higher then any of my planes climb in a minute let alone 16 seconds lol.
Must go up like a rocket.
Not had much luck with the weather lately, just winds and sink for weeks on end, so not managed to fly hardly at all let alone get any thermal flights in.
My new blaster is just sitting there looking at me a bit sad looking that it's not been up in a thermal since rebuilding. Hoping for some decent weather soon.

I have a NEU 1110- 1Y-6.7 motor in the nose. Ice Lite 100 ESC stuffed right up against the motor, Thunder Power 3S-2250-45C LiPo behind that. With that LiPo I am good for four climbs, each 16 second climb takes out about 450mAh. Pretty scary when you switch on that setup
I am pushing the motor pretty hard, 100 amps, 1100 Watts with an RFM 16X10 prop.

AUW is 1425 gms or 50.1 ounces

it flies beautifully, though my P-47 can handle a bit more wind. With the invasion stripes I find the Sea Fury visibility is very good, even for it's size. Here is a post over in the Sea Fury thread with my setup and some pictures

Weather Conditions: 5-8 Kts wind but not in the best direction for the slope. Passes over a handfull of skyscrapers and as a result makes the conditions rather turbulent. Stong thermals passing through but with intense hot sunshine making the sweat factor rather high. The summer time is not the best time for soaring in Hong Kong .... but have to work at it!! Had hoped for a longer time but it was frankly quite hard work and I landed while I had enough height to get back on the hilltop without having to use the motor.

Another good flight this week, after a lousy Thursday full of sink.

Also, this flight ended with my first handcatch.
