Belmont University filmed with our Cinestar 8, Hoverfly Pro, and Radian.

Here's a highlight film from a recent shoot at Belmont University in Nashville:

(2 min 34 sec)

We shot it with our Cinestar 8 equipped with the Hoverfly Pro and FreeFly Radian. A big thanks to the folks at FreeFly and Hoverfly. Both companies have been very supportive in our efforts to make engaging aerial video. Also, a big thanks to MaxAmps for their huge batteries - we couldn't have pulled off some of these shots without them.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment. It's rainy here near Atlanta, so I'm not out flying today.

Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching!
all the best,
Benjamin Rowland

Wow simply amazing! That was pure cinematic quality!

What camera were you flying? Did any of those shots need post stab?

Flying manual or auto level mostly?

Simply gorgeous, great job

Glad you like it - we appreciate it. We flew a GH2 for this shoot (hacked). I think I flew all of it in manual mode. We used post stabilization, but in limited amounts - it was fairly stable to begin with.

Good info. The GH2 still looks like the aerial camera to beat on a smooth setup! Which hack do you prefer? What lens were you using?

Also, how would you compare the radian system to the HF Pro gimbal controls. I realize that for a 3-axis you need a separate gimbal controller, but I believe that you have used the Pro controls in the past.

Sorry for the zillion questions, just not everyday you see footage that good and a guy willing to talk about it!

I believe it is the orion v4b hack. We're using the kit lens. I've used the Hoverfly Gimbal board and the Radian system. Both are great systems. I'd recommend checking out the manual for each to see how they differ. As we shoot more with them, I'll be able to give a better comparison. Many people have had great results with either one. The most important step is balancing your camera on your gimbal properly so the servos aren't working too hard.
