Semi-Scale FW-190 Propeller

Hi All,
I got my first 3D printed propeller back today and can't believe the quality of it. Amazing.

Anyway, I have a short clip linked below showing the prop during my test fitting on the stock prop hub with two of the stock blades for comparison. If the blade looks a bit shorter than the others it's due to the phone camera lens being odd. It's the same size as the others.

FMS 1.4m FW-190 Semi-Scale Propeller (0 min 41 sec)

I'll be starting the molds tonight and should have them done in a day or so.

Cheers,

Steve

No Hangar Queens!
Please include a worklog of how you do this. Totally cool that you are trying to make your own props.

Hi Mate,

Me too

I'm just faffing about with the molds at the moment. My first batch of silicone rubber had gone bad, so I've had to start again. Talk about a messy cleanup.

Might have the first test batch ready this arvo. I made a quick mold using a rigid polyurethane. Not my first choice of mold material but it's ok until my new batch of silicone rubber arrives.

No testing of the blades until my new batch of silicone arrives. The rigid molds I made were pretty crap.

So what will the blades be made from?

What is the size and pitch of the prop?

Not sure exactly what they are made from, but the material is good enough to fly with. If I had three of them made I probably would have The cast blades will be made from SmoothCast - Onyx.

The size of the prop is the same as stock, but I'm unsure of the exact pitch. It's pretty close to the stock blades.

Ok I got my new batch of Silicone in the mail today, so I have just finished pouring the first mold. Hopefully by this time tomorrow I will be looking at a perfectly cured silicone mold

Hi All,

Ok, First test batch of semi-scale propellers are done. (finally)

I will go out to the field tomorrow and carry out all the tests I am able to. Hopefully they will survive. I have already done a couple of low RPM throttle up tests, and they put out at least the same thrust as the stockers.

I'll post pics tomorrow from the field.

Pics are just showing the new props. I'll get to the field this afternoon as it's a bit windy at the moment.

I measured 6440rpm on the tacho with an almost full 4 cell. That's about the same as the stock blades.

Can't wait to get her in the air now

Cheers,

Steve

Went out for a test flight this afternoon and it went very well all things considered. There was a 20kt blustery crosswind at the field so it wasn't pretty to watch but it survived

Will have to wait till the weekend when the wind drops to do some decent test flights.

Cheers,

Steve
