Question

HB UG's - LiPo, Motors - Questions


I have a HB on the way with 2c LiPo batteries, swash ball u/g,
head stffener. Went with CC pixie7 & GWS 100ICS to start

1st planned u/g - GWS DD tail drive
2nd - Acro 280BB or equiv.
3rd - Astro 10T BL w/ CC PH-10 ESC

Questions:
-Can the BL motor run on 2C LiPo 7.4V (E-Tec 1200's) OK?
-Do I need a 3cell pack instead?
-Will a 3cell pack kill the DD tail motor?

Sounds like you have been doing some research.
From what I understand the answer to your BL 3 cel 2 cell question depends on which Brushless motor you go with.
I have a Razor V2 9T pinion which performs great on a 2 cell E-tech Li-poly pack, but from what I have heard about other brushless motors the Astro 10 brushless need 3 cells to get out of ground effect.

By the way how is the flying in Cochrane lately?

My 010 10T works fine with 2s E-Tec 1200's. 10 tooth pinion with standard HB blades and 12 with Hornet CF blades. With the CF blades I get about 2000 rpm max which is enough (for me right now and indoors anyway).

Why the Pinion Change?


Wahat do you gain by increasng the pinion from 10-12 for the hornet blades?
Unfortuanetly, I broke my hornet blade at the base as expected the first 30 seconds I tried em. It did look like the head speed was higher, so I wonder about the amp draw vs the stock setup(300 motor with 10 tooth(not stock , I guess)

10t was not enough to get a decent climb rate (a lot less pitch on the Hornet CF blades). I tried adding pitch, it works, but I like the higher headspeed with 12t better.

Amp draw should be ok, I can still fly for over 20 minutes.

Still one outstanding question though,
When you go to 3cell LiPo's at 11V,
what do you do with the tail drive motor?
Can the replacement OEM or replacement DD take it (6V)?
