I will be starting this build soon. I need to finish off rebuilding my 70mm HET F18 then onto this. It will be for 2-90 mm CS12 blade fans and it will be getting retracts it will be just shy of 6ft. Going to use the composite/foam sandwich for the construction. I might build it in my blog that way I can keep the unwanted trolls out or atleast delete them from my sight seeing as the mods or mod is bias in my opinion. And the administrator would not even reply back to my appeals in the last squabble. Its kind of funny but when I was suspended I noticed how quick one of the persons was to jump in all the threads I post in and try to justify that I was trying to get thrown out, funny I have never spoke to the person in my life. I think he was the mod who is bias or possibly a person using two different user accounts, because when I looked at how many miles he was from me, It was funny he was only 5 miles further than the other person who I had a pissing match with a month before this last squabble. But I have no way to tell if they are one and the same person. Well that's old news and I willl be getting on with my build soon. I also just come across a small mill which sells for $700 bucks picked it up for $100 and it has never been used. I just need a couple of wheels to move the table which must have been damaged when it was shipped. I have cleaned it up and have plugged it in and it works so I think it was a steal for the money. It is a small hobby mill but Im sure it will do ok for making small parts and stuff. I probably will still be working on my F-86F when your finished I had started to do a replica of the Y/A Starfire last year, till the Sabre bug bite me. With all the "foamys" being built here, I think the Starfire will end up a foamy too. So much faster to build. Cool is there a build thread on it? Where was the balance at compared to the 4 view drawing? Im going to use bearings and beef it up with glass and carbon and use them as ruddervators like they were intended. It will be hot wire cut, sections glued to make one half over the side view, then sanded and glassed inside, then make second half and so on. If I could get the 21 station to print out I would be more than greatful. Im wanting to do it for twin 90mm CS 12 fans.and any where from 85%FSA at the inlets up to 100% Right now with my model Im at around 85% or so I hope if I calculated correct. It is 69.75in. thats the side view front tip of nose to the tip of the elevons. Wing span is 43.5in. As far as stations go foam after sanding the plastic crap is about 1-15/16in and if there was a station at that measurement or at 3-7/8in for 2 pieces laminated together there would be around 30 or so stations at 1-15/16 But I have no Idea how hard it is to make it happen. Even if you could use your better judgement and put the stations at the 1-15/16 at the are'a like the canopy and the area's that would need more stations to get an accurate part cut would be great. Either way would be fine with me. I was just going to try andd hand draw them like I used to using measurments off wwhat I have printed out. And ad a few more stations where they would be needed. So if you can resize it to make it work better to FSA with extra stations or do the vector deal and make it where I could print it. Or add a few more stations to the 21station that P901 had shared and vector. I do have a cool program that I can tile it in seconds that I found on the net. I do not care if the size is bigger to get the FSA proper your the CAD man Im dumb founded when it comes to that but I can build a nice model. Or let me know what you think and we can decide from there. I made the "rudder-vaters" much larger then in the picture below. It flew perfect, if I were to do it again I would keep the 90mm EPF all alloy edf out in the air, the thick foam really kills power. The way I build jets is really simple, I take a scale 3 view drawing from the internet and project the image from my home theater projector on my home depot foam thats temporarily taped to my movie screen, trace the projected lines. Then cut the shapes out. I can scale the image to any size I want because projectors can scale the image to just about any size. I would never go back to printing large scale at staples and cutting everything out. They sell cheap projectors now at best buy for like $150. When I get home i'll find out where my CG is and ill post more pics Here is a pic of the basic shape before I cut ailerons and rudder-vaters. This image has been resized. I can copy them and look at them in my adobe and foxit but I cannot print from them. Its either because I don't know what im doing or because like P901 says they are light lined and huge or the guy with the rights to them has a lock or something to keep me from printing them. You know the foam is 2 inch thick which would make it the easiest to do the stations at if you think that is close enough. Or I can double it to 4inch if you think there is any area's that it would work out. See post 21 also. Or if you think there is need for stations in area's that need to be closer than 2inch I can hotwire smaller blocks. What ever is easier for you. I'am not picking sides here one way or the other, but here's my 2¢.
There are some builds that you can get by with a real good 3-4 view drawing. I looked for almost a month for anything detailed for my F-86F. Not much out there, found a half-A$$ 3 view with only 6 stations. Just by luck, the thread I was following, a gent form Germany posted a great PDF with 27 stations. The F-86F isn't a complex fuse by any stretch, now on the other hand the new jets have so many complex curves, that the more stations the better. I'm a detail freak, so if plans or drawing were avaliable at a reasonable price, I'd snap them up. I have looked at the drawing in question, $7.00 isn't bad, IF the quality of the print is far superior to whats on the site, and lends itself well to enlargement. Now if it were avaliable in a rolled full sized print, that's another thing. But to download it and print it to the scale in question, I think all definition would be lost, the lines would be as thick as your finger. Not much use it that. I'm done. Today, 01:56 AM #45 Report unclecrash Registered User 0 miles from you in white lake michigan Joined Oct 2004 1,997 Posts I probably would have bought the plans if I didn't have the four view already. But after P901 posted them and I saw how they would'nt print. I wasnot about to spend any amount on a gamble that I could print them. And like cooler said chances were I would have to do a whole lot of sizing myself to get them to the size i wanted. Ive been waiting it seems like forever for a good 4view of the yf 23 one of my favorite jets. These guys selling plans know first hand that people are going to share there plans with friends and people in the forums. So knowing this why even bother selling them if your going to complain about it. |

If there is a fee incured, my first concern is quality. Now for the most part, rolled plans or drawings are inked well and reduction is no problem, depending on scale enlargement can be! I would truly be concered with a downloaded drawing of this great size. I have had original plans, commercialy enlarged. What was once a fine line, became very thick. It's one thing to make copys of an original, but so many make copies off of copies. It's like telling a joke to a group of people. Tell it to one, and one at a time each tells it to the next. By the time it gets back to you, it barely recognizable. Same with copies. Even at $7.00, I would have passed, quality doesn't seen to be there. Looking good DFast I probably will build it like Claus does with a hollowed out shell where I can build ducts out of glass and build it in halfs over the side view plan. If you kept it at the size I posted you will notice the holes for the ducting where they round up are only at about 84 or 85mm so the fans won't fit, but will not matter with a hollow shell. It looks like you made the stations at the 2in apart which will make it a breeze to cut formers. And with all the stations should make for a nice accurate model.

what mm would you like the shell? 6mm seems thin for twin 90mm? Im using the model i have currently and when i scale it out to your requested dimensions ( 69.75inx43.5in)
my wingspan is a bit bigger at 45.960in. I have a model of the change sun 90mm 12 blade Rotor: Dia. 87mm Shroud: Inside Dia. 89mm Ouside Dia. 93.5mm Motor/hub Outside Dia. 40mm 85% FSA @ 4558.24 mm ² Does this seem right? |

I will be glassing inside and out what do you think would work? Maybe 10mm 3/8inch I have a lot of carbon tow I can add to area's also. Im not too good at figuring FSA but I think Rich said around 5000mm for 100% and I come up with about the same exact figure as you did for 85% Im wondering if with the ducting having that twist to them if it would be better to go bigger. The duct seemed a bit small with the round area in the middle and I think it was a proto type when I calculated it with out the round area and squaring up the corners like the real plane it was real close to the 4500 4600 area. Here is a diagram of the former at the duct with my crude calc.and the was I was going to do the inlet like the real plane. Like I said Im not worried if the model gets bigger all the better for fitting everything in. I was just going by what I hear most people say atleast 85% fsa and some will say bigger when having a long and twisted duct. If it will knock off the 2in spacing if making the fsa bigger then I could always just cheat the inlets a bit bigger. My chimers at about 85% seems to flow pretty good I should have done some tests with my watt meter to see before and after it was choked down to 85% too late for that though. Maybe someone else will chime in with there opinion on the fsa and the wall thickness of the foam. Even 1/2in wouldn't add much weight and would give some extra for sanding around compound area's like canopy. I like the inlet much better squared up without the round area in the top. I think this was just done in the proto type or possibly a different variant, but I have never seen it on the real one. The pic turned out crappy
