Totally non-rc related question!

Anyone know the best tool for cutting weatherboard? I'm cutting out a panel for a doggie door but the weatherboard has made 3 oscillating blades totally blunt and I'm not even half way through!

Any chippies or builders or even handymen with any tips?

don't you use one of those chomper type cutters? gullotine cutter things. That's what I have used once before on villiboard, which is like death free fibro sheet

The cutter I'm using at the moment is working, but it's very slow and trying my patience to its limit!

Is weatherboard like fibre cement? if it is then the cheapest way to cut it is to use a scoring blade. You score it along a straight edge several times to get a nice deep score then snap it. Same principle as tile or glass cutting.

Use a grinder with a masonry cutting disc on it.

well that looks easy! just like gyprock then. but does it work on weatherboard which is a bit thicker, and tapered?

Is that a firebird in your avatar ozzie?

And the weatherboard in question is still attached to the house!!

I'll try a grinder with masonry disc on it. Now i just have to find my bloody grinder!!

sounds like Glen was the only one who actually read your post properly! I thought you were making a dog house out of weatherboard, not cutting a hole IN your weatherboard on your house for your dog!

aren't you usually supposed to cut a doggy door into an existing door as opposed to cutting a hole in your wall?

btw, It's not old asbestos weatherboard is it?

+1 even a metal disc will work in a pinch.. if you're worried about dust, moisten it with a spray bottle as you go.

Lined my whole double garage in this stuff using just a scorer and a grinder.

unless his house was made after 84, it's probably full of asbestos in the weatherboard.

ozzie, yeah,......um....... that's what I meant........ well there are some similarities!

Yep, after 84 deffinately. No asbestos!

I'll try a grinder metal cutting disc. Would even a dremel metal cutting disc do the job? I have some great metal cutting discs here and it will save me a trip to bunnings!

If you do it with a dremel, could you video it so I can watch it when I can't get to sleep! I reakon 20min of that will knock me out for sure, but just in case there will be a fair bit more of that still to watch I'm sure
