This is much more like it...

H.M.S Surprise Sail (3 min 3 sec)

Sails drawing, a slight heel and even if she might be motoring along at least it looks like she`s sailing

USS CONSTITUTION has been considered a National Shrine and as such, will never again be put in harm's way.

Such was not the case with the Bounty and look what happened to her...

the sunk bounty wasn`t the original ship but a much larger replic under commercial pressures that might or might not have caused the decision to get to sea during teh approaching storm.
But she was doing what she was built to do, sail

Now as USS Constitution is a commissioned Navy ship, the commercial pressure should be pretty small and not really influencing her operation, so as an active US Navy unit she should get out there and sail !

at least there is no tug at her side in that pic

much better...

I suspect that the USS Constitution is not sailed anywhere for the same reason the HMS Victory stays at home - even if they could be made seaworthy, the Admiral who happened to let her sink, even though no fault of his own, would be keelhauled :-)

Would be neat to get Surprise/Rose out of San Diego for a while and into Boston Harbor to see them together in the same photo. Or better yet, someone spend millions to build a replica of HMS Guerrière. : ) That'd make a neat annual celebration in the harbor.

Tim

just saw this. Nice side by side.
