HobbyKing Wilga

I like the look of this much more than HK's existing Wilga.

Looks like it could a great slow flyer for the park and on the other hand you have to wonder, suitably powered and propped, what it could tow up in sailplanes?

So, tempted to pull the plug... but its $27.99 to ship to the US... may have to sell a plane to add this to the hangar

The wheels look like they could be an issue to use on grass or repair when they fail.

You're right but I think it'll be a case for me of putting some well oversize boots on to deal with the grass - worked well on my Beaver.

But I'm going to wait until it lands in the UK warehouse. Just had the very pleasing experience of ordering a plane from HK UK on Sunday, it was shipped Monday morning and arrived today - shipping was $9.99 and no worries about customs. I have had HK Hong Kong achieve 5 days from order placement to my doorstep which was even more remarkable but it was only once and still a lot more than $9.99!

Local warehouse is better!

Low'n Slow is safest, right?

To bad the HobbyKing version is white and not yellow
But I ordered one anyway

Have this thing about radial engined planes and love STOL/bush type planes as well, so how could I resist this one...

Well, order no. 100 from HK is on its way

Please post your thought and pictures - even better, flight video - when you get it. I'm about to move house but it is likely on my shopping list in a month or two.

Order # 100 eh? Ouch, I'm only up to order 39 and I don't even want to think about how much moolah $$ that represents

Hopefully you will at least be able to start saving on shipping and enjoying quicker delivery by sourcing from HK UK now the warehouse is open, although obviously nothing like the range of stock.

Blame the Poles for the "utilitarian" styling, but this is a first class case of function before form. If you want something a little sexier, HK offers another version of this plane, the later PZL-104, M2000. Certainly a case of the ugly duckling that turned into a beautiful swan...er, well, a much better looking duck.

All a question of taste I guess - I much prefer the ugly duckling - t.l.a.r. scale and livery whereas the other one has the revolting HobbyKing logos all over it and spindly wire landing gear - looks like a cheapo non-scale sports trainer. No flaps either which are surely part of the Wilga's essential character?

I find there is room for both. I got mine back when it was marketed by Sapac and it was covered in the revolting Air Cadets scheme. The Hobby King logos come off and with a little engineering, that unique landing gear can be duplicated and attaches with the stock mounts . The winglets need some work also, but nothing that a little Depron won't fix. Currently, mine is covered in Jap tissue and WBPU. Flaps are an easy addition, too. This has been a fun kit bash, with easy mods yielding neat results. Nonetheless, I think I will have to get the earlier model too. It certainly has character!
