Squared-up four of the 3-1/2" fixtures and attached presses to them. Glued one of the Waco's center section spars in place to give the presses a go.

I'm sure that there will be challenges using this system. It is not a catch-all solution to building and I did not throw away my building pins. But it is simple, and I'm already enjoying it.

The board does feel pretty natural though.

You've got a start on the WACO. If you put it aside now, the parts will get lost.

On the bit about raising and lowering your bench...

Every time I see an ambulance stretcher rolled into our hospital I think something like that would be pretty awesome. They can support a lot of weight but they aren't the most rigid things in the world. But I think an adaptation (someone mentioned scissor jack) would work well - particularly if they had some kind of tube-in-tube legs at the corners that could be clamped.

I think I've found an avenue to a vertical adjustment.

The table in the pics adjusts from 24" to 48", but I can't see needing more than a 8"-10" swing. Though having more than that would be available.

Now all I need to do is figure out a design for the base, maybe with drawers.

That looks like a motorcycle lift which has been adapted. It will likely not be rigid enough to provide a stable platform.

Thought about that. Hopefully the local Harbor Freight has one assembled and on the floor. I'll be able to see it up close. A rock solid surface isn't necessary.

No updates from you in a long time, but reading this thread was a pleasant way to spend this evening. Thanks.

Hope you are into building your model now that you have the pro-style bench complete.

Hi Tom,

The building board went right into use. I'm currently building a Dave Platt Waco YMF-3 on it:

The building board is sitting on top of my woodworking bench. I still have to come-up with an adjustable height system for it and band it with some sort of wood.

Great to hear.

PS: I am a woodworker and my vacuum bag setup came from Joewoodworker too.

Cool!

Is there a pic of it on the website?

I built two. The venturi system first (and I use it the most because it is SO light, small, and fast). http://www.joewoodworker.com/veneering/v2-about.htm

And this one for smaller bags (4x6 and smaller) since I had a nice GAST pump sitting around (my 30 year box is overflowing.) . http://www.joewoodworker.com/veneering/EVS/concept.htm

In both setups I just use lengths of capped 4" PVC pipe as vacuum chambers and they work fine.

Thought about the venturi system just to save (precious) storage space. Harbor Friehgt had a sale on the air tanks though, and I had all the other "stuff" (except the pump and fittings) so I went with the tank style.

Fun stuff!

Thanks
