Quad Crasher

Had to mod the plates slightly to allow the left and right booms to move into positions it wasn't designed for.

Not only does it fly in quad mode, it also transforms to fly in tri Y or T mode.
Simply disconnect the front motor or remove it, set the FC (KK2) to tri, move the battery up front for CG and away you go.
It has a tail servo which is needed in tri mode, but also makes it yaw really well in quad mode.

If you think this is weird or crazy, wait till I show you my new one which is almost complete.
Wow... That has me tempted to dig out my old GLB X525 frame and hack it. Nice job!

Thanks for posting this. My brother makes fiberglass moldings (or used to anyway) and has a bunch of 3mm GRP sheet that I traded with him for. When I get some I think I might try cutting your quad out of it and see what happens. I have some 1500kv 1811 motors that I got thinking about a KK "UFO" quad that I could use with a 3S 500mAh battery. With hindsight I wish I'd got the 1800, or even 2000 kv motors but we'll see. Ecalc says I could go to 6x3 props with my motors on 3s, so that's an option. I got the 5x3 two blade props for now.

cheers, and thanks again for sharing your design,

PS. Do you have any pictures of the broken quad after the crash? I am trying to visualize the "extreme" loads that quads get, and examining broken ones might be the only way to try to infer where the loads really come.

Austrian adrenaline junkie...
You won't see very much on the photos because the booms where bent about 1-2mm between end of lower reinfocements and motors. Not much but enough to tilt the motors.
On 3mm fiberglass i think you are good to smash a window!

The only thing to keep in mind is vibration stiffness, i don't know how fiberglass behaves there.
I think it should also be no problem because the flyduino nanoquad is made of 2.5mm fiberglass.
But they have the interconnection between the arms...
