I just finished my build of Sean's Aerotestra quad. This was a very easy build. At first I was concerned about getting all of the FPV equipment. With some cable management it worked out great. The only parts sticking out into the wind are the antennae, sonar module, and FPV (later Contour HD) camera.
In order to carry the extra equipment I did some very minor mods to the suggested installation. This quad has more powerful motors to handle the added weight. Just to make sure, I added small holes in the case to provide extra cooling (see picture). Wiring was eased by lengthing three ESC wires with 6" servo extensions. This allowed me to bundle all the wiring on one side with a removable cable tie. Access to the battery was very easy. The MinumOSD was mounted to the back of the ArduPilot, further reducing wiring. The configuration of the Aerotestra is well suited to FPV. The controller/gyro is mounted far away from equipment and there is no metal to affect the gyro or compass. Great job Sean in this design. Top notch product. Don |

http://www.getfpv.com/featured/orange-rc-bobbins.html But also just got some of these PC HD dampeners to try... http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=23379 They are a little stiffer but might work well. cheers...phil PS. You mentioned 9 x 6 props in your video. I know APC make an E prop in counter rotating pairs at 9 x 6. http://www.apcprop.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=9x6+e phil |

My first scratch built hex designed by yours truly. Took about 3 weeks on and off of designing and building.

can someone help with my tuning, I'm on a kk2 board and so far I've got I gain right up to 320 and I am still not getting the low speed oscilation that I am expecting. Am i missing something?

That looks great. Great feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to document your build. I hope I can join you when you get to flying. Looks like the production is beginning and delivery should begin by weeks end. I will post a full description under a "new product" heading in the next day or two. |

What do you mean by ocilate and why would you want it to? Is that a end point for your settings or something? I just received all my parts and the KK2 from HK so I'm starting my quad build. Need all the help I can get. Thank you for your help.
Tom Update: just came in from giving the tricopter a try. Its alive. I just played around with the gyros until was stable. It doesn't try to auto stabilize. The manual says it is suppose to. I'll just have to keep working on it. At least it flys. This is my first attempt at a multi rotor. |

Took it out for a flight. AUW 1750g on 9" props. Still getting a bit of jello but I didn't balance the props. I also found out that I don't need to hang the batteries out the back to balance like my other quads so I can save a bit more weight there.
I will be redesigning as this evolves until I get it just right. Cameras: These are GoPro Hero2's (for Stereo) with the Sunnex lens mod to give a square picture. DSL945D-650-F2.5 http://www.optics-online.com/EnterOrder.asp?ID=4446 http://www.optics-online.com/OOL/DSL/DSL945.PDF The horizontal FOV is 60º as compared to the Hero 2 on 'medium', which I had used before, at 127º. I like the square frame but the more 'zoomed in pic' mean you have to fly very slow to get something watchable. phil |

X650 Spyder
That looks realy nice Cap't and I didn't really notice the jello you commented about, flies very nice. Here is mine out of X650 parts and a frame I drew up and was able to have DialFonZo to cut out for me. I am very happy with the outcome and has the portablility and size I was looking for.

Looking good Birdman. I see the slight Jello in mine viewing full res but I think I can tame it.
When you have something cut is it laser? cnc? Does it have to be from G10 or can they do ply as well? And what type of file do you have to create? CXF? and cost? cheers...phil (still wearing out the jigsaw) |

i have slight jello but i think that's just the props . i tuned the quad in crazy strong winds so there is no oscillation in low wind any more |

Hi Phil, I had mine cut by Eric (DialFonZo). He posts in this thread and resides in Quebec. He has a CNC set-up that I believe he built himself. I sent him a photo of a mockup on how I thought it was going to look and then emailed him a scanned copy of a paper cut out I had done with the dimensions on it. I don't have a cad and probably wouldn't be able to use it anyway. I tried doing a wooden prototype but was not as accurate as yours in the cutting so after seeing some of Eric's work I decided to go straight to the G10. I am very happy with the results. I think once I ream the props and balance rather then drill, (which I noticed did put them off centre) the jello will be gone completely.
