Thanks for the photos

I haven't seen sheet wax used before?

Could you give more details of its use and purpose.

Cheers Jeff

I learned how to use sheet wax while working in Grumman's Composites tooling dept. It come's in thickness's from .010-.250. and it come's with out an adhesive back or not. On the Tango I'm using it to give me a wing fairing joggle and a joggle for the nose cone. It save's you from doing alot of sanding on the plug in some cases. I'd rather spend time wet sanding the mold down to 2000 grit. And then compound it. The wax is very versitile and can be used for alot of different application's. go to freemanplastics.com I think. I'll double check that. Thank's for the compliment's.

No fuse too fat

Nice work! I've used sheet wax in the past but never thought of covering the entire plug and cutting bits out to create the step downs. Hmmm... ideas spinning through my head about how I could have used that to create the canopy frame on the 109. Oh yeah, I'm keeping that.

I remember using the wax to simulate a built up area of a lay up and making what we called a locating template that would go on the final lay-up between the bag and the actual part. A vane attempt to make bagged part look like an injection molded part, it worked so so.

Sheet wax?

I like the way you have made the mould feet! I will copy that.
However, I'm still a bit puzzled by the use and application of the "sheet wax".
Is it pressed onto the plug to do the job of a more conventional release system? Or has it something to do with the final shaping of it?

Jim.

In the Tango's case any sort of irregularities in the plug can be blended you can even wet sand it. Just the warmth of your hand can make it stick to the plug. Of course I like using the the wax that has adhesive on one side. It also made it easier to put joggle's where I wanted to. Even though it is wax I still apply PVA just as a precaution. The backing paper has a shinny side that can be used to rub the wax and make it shinny as well.

You want to make a few of those wing set's. Today I pulled it apart, the plug is still intact. I won't post a photo or 2 yet till I totally detail the mold's. Basically they came out alright but I'm going to fill a void in the wing seat area while I'm detailing the other mold half. I hope to have a fuse done by the W/E, and a wing fairing to go with it. BTW thank's for the compliment's you did a nice design job.
