Yippee!

Oculus Rift (first truly immersive virtual reality headset)

this the Oculus Rift . it is only about 300$right now for a single dev kit. a must have for any FPVer. $1,713,224 pledged of $250,000 goal. 14 days to go. probably not plug n play for fpv gear right now, though.

"Oculus Rift is a new virtual reality (VR) headset designed specifically for video games that will change the way you think about gaming forever. With an incredibly wide field of view, high resolution display, and ultra-low latency head tracking, the Rift provides a truly immersive experience that allows you to step inside your favorite game and explore new worlds like never before.

We're here raising money on Kickstarter to build development kits of the Rift, so we can get them into the hands of developers faster. Kickstarter has proven to be an amazing platform for accelerating big and small ideas alike. We hope you share our excitement about virtual reality, the Rift, and the future of gaming.

Designed for gamers, by gamers.

The Rift takes 3D gaming to the next level. There are a number of VR headsets out there, but none that deliver a truly immersive gaming experience. Most products either lack the technical features required for believable immersion or sit at a very high price-point ($20,000+) reserved for the military or scientific community.

We set out to change all that with the Rift, which is designed to maximize immersion, comfort, and pure, uninhibited fun, at a price everyone can afford. "

This is so interesting. Fatshark should consider lowering their prices
This Oculus seems much more advanced than Fatshark dominator's.
For FPV I think it will take some time as the signal coming from the Tx in the multi is not HD, currently there is tech to convert the image but with a lot of signal delay, not fast enough for fpv as I recall. It looks like Oculus will be like that since all game consoles handle that resolution... A great innovation indeed...

WAIT.

This is for the development KIT. This is not something that comes in a box, and you plug it in and go.

The Rift only does DVI input, and they are not built to show video. To give you total immersion, it has optics with 110degree fish-eye distortion on both eyes. So if you just convert video to DVI it will not work very well. You actually has to project the video inverse of the fish-eye distortion to make a flat image.

From the sounds of it the $300+ and up kits come with full assembled prototypes. The only software that works with it is their version of Doom 3 which is where the "development" comes in. The headset and Doom 3 should work right out of the box.

thanks. didn't know that and didn't see any tech specs either. so if some pair of goggles had 110deg view, the camera on the quad could move in a gimble, the goggles didnt do fisheye stuff, these would be awesome for fpv?
