Magnetic Building Board

I have seen here some folks using a magnetic board for building. Where can I find these? Been googling it, but not having much luck.

I noticed those there the other day and thought of the same app.....then thot it would be too much hassle....pins, ceiling tile, bricks, and a small square....

So that's how you throw a DLG!
I got mine from Tower hobbies many years ago. I still use it but I now have a steel door as a building table and it works well also.

Latch magnets here....

Sheet steel here....

Magnet fixture ideas here.

I use a laser line tool to shoot a straight line on the steel without the plan. Set the magnets on the line and butt the bottom spar cap and sheeting to the magnets and use a second magnet to hold the cap down. I also make rib spacing/ square blocks to keep the wing accurate. Most plans are off a little so my wings are straighter now. This technique will change the order of construction steps in the instructions. I pop the wing off the steel to add epoxy in the joiners then do the final sheeting and LE. With laser cut ribs this method will make straighter wings.

Those AllElectronics magnets look like a great deal! I bought a big bag of cabinet latches from the auction site for about the same price and had to cut the plastic body out of each one. Get some good gel CA or Goop and glue the sides on the magnet so they won't come apart. For a magnetic board, the first one I had was a bulletin board purchased from Walmart for $9. I found out after a couple weeks that the cardboard backing would warp severely, turning my building board into a huge white potato chip. Get one of the better heavy duty bulletin boards from Staples or Office Depot, they'll stay flat and when not being used for building, hang it on the wall so you can post your RC to-do list.
