I'm guessing that the string looking part is thread binding to strengthen the end of the tube to stop it splitting. I would use Kevlar thread and cyano. This is a little different to a conventional balsa model where the wing root rib stops the tube end splitting.

yes on the purpose of the string. Sewing thread works fine, but Kevlar material will of couse make is stronger.

I'm really liking this plane. In this video i did mostly 3D but it flies some nice lines. I could really get some good all around practice with this plane. I'll have to get one for myself since i built this for my friend. Here's the video with accidental landing at the end. The video of how the assembly goes together is uploading now as well.

Nice video and nice flying. Looks like the removable wing version flies well but it looks like it's more hassle than it's worth. I reckon I'd still fit the wings once and then just leave them there. I suppose if your trying to fit a lot of gear in a small vehicle it might be worth it though.

Thank you.
It works out quite well for me actually. If you see at the beginning of the video i have it sitting neatly next to my other models. It would stick out pretty far without taking off the wings. Plus, like you said putting it in a small car with a lot of gear or in my case 2 or 3 other large planes makes it worth it.

There is a SMALL amount of play in the wings but i haven't noticed anything in flight. I still need to install the wing fence/SFGs.

If you want something quicker that would fly in more wind get a weasel instead. Like this. The alula is more of a light wind trainer. Which you probably wouldnt need as you can already fly RC.
