So which motor should I go with...
1) Hollow cup 7 x 20 (with ladybird prop mounted direct drive)
2) S107 main motor (with ladybird prop mounted direct drive)
3) WLtoys V929 Beetle (with ladybird prop mounted direct drive)
Personally I like #3 as it does have power in tap.. And the quad is not so finnicky about the cog etc.. But I had to fiddle a bit to get the arms and holders just right so they don't twist with the additional power.. I am not sure if a foam frame would hold up.. But if it did it would be even better

for $18 quad there is no chance with #1 or #3 but for more power and faster response the s107 is not a choice. obviously v929 8.5mm motor will do that but probably best with a bigger prop. 5mm instead of 3mm bamboo or even cf may be needed. it will be heavier and flight times shorter. also more crash damage comes with more speed and weight. so maybe the 720 is your next step.

even if you dont hit the $18 mark these things are still cheap and frames are almost free so why not try them all.

Thanks,

Dave,
OK I think I'll go with 7x20.

But for V929, 8.5mm motor, which prop is best recommended (direct drive).
With what you said, I think, ladybird props will turn out to be smaller?

I would like to order all material at one time now..... second build with 7x20, and third build with V929-8.5mm motor.
I believe V939 board works best with them all?

My first miniquad is already under 18$.
So for the second one, it doesn't really matter! (Although I know I'm writing in the 18$ thread, LOL!)

Firstly with the v929 motors u def not going to hit $18... Unless u have these lying around or someone gets em really cheap..

I tried using cf arms both 2mm solid tubes and 3mm squares, and there was just too much shifting and torsional movement, but this maybe due to the motor holders being 3mm rounds so it wasn't a great fit.. The bamboo was just the easiest to manipulate.

I also tried using bigger props, just to see the lift power, I tried using the tail prop of a solo pro 328, which is about a cm bigger than the walkera... And got some funny results. When throttling up with this prop, the board just resets.. It's a new board a v929 8 plug rev 02... So I went back to the smaller walkera... But want to try the mjx..

Raj,
Go for 7x20 ,U816 motors.
Motors 3.20 USD each with motor/arm holder and plugs. It has the best price(considering the other accessories coming with motor). No need to fabricate any holder.
I ordered myself another batch.

UDI Motor is the same as ladybird-hollowcup-7x20? just that it comes with the boom? is it like that?

This should work equally good with ladybird props??

What is the dia and weight of the udi prop?

Thanks
Raj

Yes. can't tell the difference of the motors. Maybe compareable with a LadyBird booms.
I'm using them on several of my plug'n'fly microquads. Nice punch

Raj,
You can use UDI motors with Walkera QR props. No problems at all.I used like that.Or with Mjx 100 props.UDI props are ok., but it was reported that Walkera and Mjx 100 have more lift. The motor shaft is 1 mm size the same for all these motors/props.
mystman you are faster than me.
