Best brand of Lipo battery?

I was wondering if there is a particular brand of Lipo battery that is better than the others, particularly as far as drawing high current from them, in other words they would have pretty low internal resistance amoung other things.

At this point, the Thunder Power batteries have about the best (read longest history) track record for high power stuff. I've used them in 3 and 4P configurations to well above 60 amps peak and 40 amps continuous.

The TPs are very good but the new Tanic 2200-based packs are proving to hold their own with the TPs , in the same setups. See this thread.

yeah, thunder powers are good, but the tanics are a little better. tanics haven't been around very long, but i think they will become very popular soon. also see this thread:

It depends on the size. The Kokam 340mAh cells are the best of the small ones, as they are rated at 20C (6.8A) continuous current draw. There's a real battle in the larger sizes, with different people preferring different brands, and new cells coming out all the time. If you give a specific size, you'll get more specific responses.

One thing you might consider is how you intend to set up and maintain your pack.

Thunder Power's policy has been to sell packs only.

Other manufacturers sell individual cells, so you can build/maintain the packs yourself.

Tanics will only be sold in packs as well, from what I understand. It is probably for the same reasons, cell matching, quality control, etc.

you're right dave, the kokam 340 is the best cell in terms of discharge. this thead was started in the heli forum though, so that's why i didn't mention it. i guess you could use a 10p pack of 340s for a bigger heli, but that would be a lot of soldering

Thunder Power is still your best bet. The Tanics haven't proven themselves with long-term community use yet. They're also quite a bit more expensive.

if you're looking at a high power situation, the tanics can be quite a bit cheaper than the thunder powers, because you can carry fewer of them in parallel to get the same amount of current. they also hold their voltage better under load. for instance, a 7s2p tanic pack contains only 14 cells, and flies my logo 20 as well as an 8s4p thunder power pack, which contains 32 cells. even if the price per cell is higher for the tanics, the total pack cost is quite a bit lower. however, i don't believe we know what pricing on the tanics is going to be like yet. i know one retailer is selling small packs for rather high prices, but he's got a limited and exclusive supply. i am hoping they will be sold for less when the big shipments get in.

I guess the only people who would know that this thread originated in the Heli forum are those who followed it from there. There's not enough info in the message itself to determine the user's specific needs. Based on the responses so far, I guess I was correct in saying that different people prefer different brands.

The 3s packs of tanics at one site I checked were 10 bucks cheaper than the 3s packs of TP's I found at another.

best cell is the 340 kokam at 20C
After mly vote goes to Irate/Tanic with 10C, even on big seize cells.
TP ET and other kokam are between 5 and 8C, behind....so far
