Great Article and thank you. Question is: What are the recommend D/R and Expo rates to enter into a DX8?

Pdeberar,

Thanks for the kind words. Glad to be of help! Suggested rates & expo are listed in the CC's manual. Also, I fly the CC with a Futaba 10CHP, so I'm not familiar with the DX8. The above said - rates & expo are simply a matter of pilot preference, and are 100% up to the individual. For instance, I don't use low rates on any of my planes. I set the rates to 100%, adjust the pushrod positions to provided the max throw that I want, and then add however much expo I wish to soften things around center.

Joel, a great article always deserves a great remark!

I have looked everywhere in the E-Flite UMX Carbon Cub SS manual and it doesn't mention any radio settings. The only radio settings it mentions are the Flap/Elevator mix. I completely agree and understand that each pilot has their own preference, but I am finding it difficult to have a good starting point, so hoping you can help. In the meantime, here is the link the manual.

Very interesting. Most of the UMX manuals have suggested rate & expo settings, but not the CC manual. Hmm...I wonder why that is. I just assumed that it did, since most of the others do. I don't pay much attention to that stuff because I always run 100% rates on my UMs, adjust the pushrod positions to get the max throw I want, and then add some expo if I want to mellow things out a bit. On the CC, I moved the elevator & rudder pushrods to the innermost holes & moved the aileron pushrods to the second hole out. As I noted - I'm running 100% rates & -30% expo (Futaba expo is opposite from Spektrum). But others don't run any expo at all. I see that some of the guys in the regular CC thread also told you what they're running. I think Brian's suggestion is a good place to start.

GREAT thread. Useful info. I just purchased this for myself for my birthday. Fist venture into the micro electric world from nitro and gas. Accompanying this was the DX6i as I have the BEAST on the radar too (It took me an hour to decide between the two LOL)

Question, What is the largest battery anyone is using? Will these also work in the Beast? I did go to the thread from RCBABBEL ( https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1540831 )

Hyperion (2S) 240mAh 25C RTF w/UMX connector.
$13.95

Hyperion VX (2S) 400 35C w/UMX connector. (lightened & thinned)
$15.95
L x W x H
43x24.5x10 mm
Approx: 22g

Hyperion VX (2S) 500 35C w/UMX connector. (lightened & thinned)
$16.95
L x W x H
43x24.5x12 mm
Approx: 26g

Are the three I am looking at. User recommendation is always a good idea to me.

I have a HiTec X4acdc Charger. So using the multi-battery harness seems to be an ideal set up too.
I just dont want to fly for 6 min then sit around waiting on a battery.

Get the multi-battery parallel charging harness, the 500mAh Hyp (at the very least) and then go back to your 1 hour and make the right decision to buy BOTH the CC and the Beast 3D

Probably some TP 325 65C packs would be great too but I just use my one 500mAh because the flight times are 20+ minutes and by then I am not interested in more carbon cubbing.

Thunderboat,

Thanks for the kind words! Glad that you found it to be useful.

Ben nailed it regarding packs & charging harness. I have various UMX packs that will fit, but I find that I always fly the CC with my Hyp VX 500 35c & TP 325 70c Babbelbatts. I use the TP 325s when flying indoors or outdoors when the air is really smooth. I prefer the Hyp VX 500s when the air is rough, when there's a breeze, or whenever I feel like taking her on a 20 minute "cross-country" flight. Regarding the Beast 3D - get one! It's an amazing little true-scale aerobatic plane with no bad habits & essentially zero coupling - that laughs at 15+ MPH winds. The CC & Beast 3D are my favorite micros - by far. They see considerably more stick-time than all of my other UMs combined.

BTW - Ben makes a killer set of scale 36" Alaskan Bushwheels for the CC that will allow her to operate from rough runways and moderately long grass. For even better scale-flight & Super Cub-style aerobatic performance, try the 5.75" x 2.5" prop from the UMX Yak 54. You get gobs of thrust at lower airspeed - which allows the plane to fly with authority at scale-ish speeds, and allows the pilot to make the plane appear to labor through loops & longer up-lines. However, the Yak prop requires 'tundra' tires for adequate ground-clearance. E-flite L-4 Grasshopper 250 wheels provide enough clearance for hard-surface runways AstroTurf, and very short grass. They aren't scale, but they look more like a scale tundra tire than any of the common micro-size wheels from Du-Bro, etc. They also fit the axle perfectly. But Ben's Alaskan Bushwheels are the ultimate choice if you want the ability to fly off rougher surfaces & moderate-length grass, yet preserve the scale appearance.

Ben - do you have the pics & video handy?
