What sony model will you be using?
Sony pj710v. It has Sony's new balanced optical steadyshot, which imo would be really helpful for flight videos.

So I'd need an all new motor, prop, battery, and esc?

yes you would need a whole new power train.

Have you flown rc planes with cameras on board?

Just something similar to the original sky surfer with small cameras.

I guess I'll just use some Sony Action Cams. I do own a couple Sony Hx9v's. They weigh 245g each. Mounting 1 of them to this plane with stock everything should be fine right?

The hx9v has pretty killer 1080p60 with optical and digital stabilization. Not nearly as good as the new sony balanced stabilization system, but better than nothing.

I just want to be sure on prop direction on this plane. There is no writing on the prop, but there is a slight ridge on prop hub,i take it that goes towards motor ?

Q = Question A= Answer

Q: Do the wings come apart like the original Skysurfer?
A: Yes they do.

Q: How do they attach to the fuselage?
A: They have 2 locking pins located in the center of the fuselage
.

Q: Does it have a wheel on the belly?
A: Yes it does.

Q: What prop is included with the kit?
A:

Q: What it the maximum size prop the air frame would allow for?
A: I will need to obtain this information still.

Q: Are the flight characteristics similar to the original Skysurfer?
A: I will need to check with the pilots that have had the chance to fly the unit.

Q: Can you post a video of it soon?
A: A video is currently in the works.

Q: Even a picture of someone holding it to give some perspective would be helpful. Also, pictures of the cockpit and usable space within the fuselage.
A: Additional photos will be available soon.

Thank you,
William

Does anyone sell the Super Sky Surfer besides Banana Hobby?

I'm not too interested in waiting months and going through all the phone calls, emails, broken promises etc. it takes to get an airplane out of them.

BTW, I see a RTF version and an ARF version. Does anyone have a KIT of the Super Sky Surfer? No radio, no motor, not built up, just the airframe kit?

No, nobody does. Where does the idea come from that it takes months to get this? In almost every instance people are getting these within a week or two of paying for them. Try that and see how it goes.

I bought an ordinary SkySurfer from them a year or so ago. It was missing its brushless motor when it got in. And things went downhill from there.

I'd rather not go through all that again.

Nope just the ARF and so far no one else is carrying this baby. By the way it is one of the best built best flying planes i have yet to fly. I would replace the thin control rods for elev and rudder . I also ordered a 50amp esc with 4amp bec as 6 17g servos is to much for the stock esc.

Mods for the Super Sky Surfer

OK. After reading the forum I've done a few mods to the SSS. I replaced the solid spar rod with a hollow one from Goodwinds.com ( 48" long, 0.5" OD., 90g v.s. 309g!!) It fits perfectly. However as with the original solid rod, it can push in much further into either wing as there is no stop in the wing. So I twisted very tightly some medium stainless steel wire around the 24" center point and used thin CA to hold it in place. The spar tubes in the wing had to be sanded down a bit to accept the 1/16 band around the new spar. Now the spar is always centered.

CG: With the recommended battery (11.1V 3S 25C 3600mAh Li-Po Battery) the plane was very tail heavy. I ordered a 5000mAh from Hobby King but am waiting for it to arrive. In the mean time, I've added 93g of lead to the "front facing" part of the battery and that lets me balance the plane to 103mm from LE. (recommended is 100mm from LE)

From the kit, I had to shorten the two flap push rods so they would fit. I also secured the push rod sleeves for the rudder and elevator where they exit the rear of the plane. They were flexing out quite a bit and not reliable. I'm keeping the originals for now, although some of you are replacing them with heavier push rods.

I orded a new APC 8X6 E pusher prop. I could not locate an 8X8 anywhere on the web??

I'll fly it again next week and report any issues, if any exist.

NOTE: I've added some photos in a later posting.

Nitroplanes has the smaller version. Other than that, take a chance...you always have a PP or credit card dispute.
