Scratchbuilt Y6

Hi all, thought I would pop this on here and share a few pic's.
This is my Y6, I'm building for FPV soon I hope! (still need video TX)
I have built a few Quads but thought something a bit different for the FPV would be nice.

Hi Noob Mike,

I did the whole thing by hand, measured it all out, cut it then filed it.
I did use a bench drill for the holes(they took forever), the de-burring was a nightmare! had to do it inside so wires can run through the booms.
But there you have it all hand built.

Hi vineet_p,

I found it on ebay, here is the link.

Colour may be more yellow like mine, but the first lot was like the picture.

PS. sorry I don't think he ships outside the UK, maybe worth an ask.

So cool! Good work mate, I was a little confused by the red lights for forward arms, but seeing it in flight the red is really a good choice.

How many battery packs do you have running? Could you post pics of your wiring job so other aspiring builders such as myself can have a look? I'm perplexed about how to hook up all the ESCs to the battery

Hi Dogz85,

Thanks for that, I have seen these but have been wondering about the power.
But thinking about it I will not be going very far so i think it will do the job.
I have a camera so the price looks good to!

Hi AeroRoo,

I just used this standard type power board but linked where you see in red, so the current can run both ways. all ESC's connected to the large holes and the LED strips run from the smaller holes and are powered via a small 2 amp ESC.
That way I can control them from the radio. The next time I have to take the air frame apart I will take a pic and pop it in.

Hope this is of some help

Hi Milesl,

Thanks, it does take a while to do but it's fun!
I am using the Crius AIO Pro, it was using the Crius SE but I upgraded to use GPS.

I am using Multiwii at the moment, but I'm thinking of giving MPNG a go to see what it's like. What are you using?

I'm using an APM 1 with latest Arducopter code on a small Y6 (Not as nice as yours :P)
Feels very stable (I don't have much experience with flying helis or multi's, FW for 5 years), and so far no major crashes.
Loads of useful features and with xbees, its a really capable UAV. Was having a look at the AIOP with the MPNG, but found an APM 2 at a good price and have ordered that instead.

Would be interested to see how the MPNG is, as the board is a third of the price of an APM 2 board
