Thank you Roger! That is very kind of you. But I assure you, not everyone thinks that.

But thank you anyway. I do what I can.

Good to see you here and same to you!

That's a funny word
Still lurking here and spotting a few build threads. Hopefully I'll be ready next time around as I'm collection tools, supplies, parts.

I met a nice man the other day who had a wing being built and I paid notice to his bench which was solid wooden piece clamped down to an old work bench. I've been wondering what I'll use for a flat surface and I have plenty of work benches , but I thought I'd use the kitchen table that's in the garage or in the spare room.

So to show my ignorance about how things happen is this about right?

1. A solid flat strong square surface is used that T-pins might push into?
2. Plans are taped down and then covered with wax paper of clear sheeting?
3. Then structures can be laid down in 1:1 scale right over the plans and glued together with something holding them down square?

This is hard to imagine not having ever seen it or done it before. I do have lots of vises, c-clamps, plastic clamps,clothespins,t-pins, ect. No magnetic clamps of any sort though.

Is there a ready made building bench that is fairly complete or even a thread that may describe the very basics that I need to get my mind wrapped around before starting? I have seen a magnetic system , but that's way overkill for me. I'll only do a kit per year and for my first small ones I don't want to invest a serious amount in space, materials, money.

Thanks, guys. I know my questions probably seem kinda stupid to many who know how all this comes together.

In the meantime I did actually glue a wooden motor mount together for my mini-ep and it turned out well. I also made my first wood piece , a very simple battery hatch out of plywood with radiused corners and now I will install 4 magnets and cover it. First time for all 4 of these jobs, but at least it gets me familiar with working with wood, glue, covering.

gulio--You got it.

Can't spend a bunch of money? For ~$3 you can buy a 2'x4' ceiling tile. Bingo! Instant building board for use with pins.

I bought a cheap door from Home Depot for aroind $20 for an even surface (take yours or borrow their tsquare) and a 2x4 foot ceiling tile for a few bucks. Works great.

Ok, thanks guys. I followed your thread glazzies because that model was one that was on my wishlist , it's looking very good. Just checked out yours IoNslo and that definately won;t be my first kit, lol.

So I will probably pick up a few ceiling tiles and use it on one of my old kitchen tables that are nice and flat. Perhaps I was not thinking correctly about a ceiling tile. I was thinking it was a flimsy cheap thing that I can push my finger thru or bust it over my knee just by pushing on it.

Will shop later. I think I need many more small plastic clamps too.

PS. Here's what I have gotten so far in prep. Some of it is for repairs on my existing planes.

Box -o-balsa
triangle stock
smart stripe machine
slot machine
strip bag of wood
tooth picks
craft sticks
square dowels
sander gift pack
balsa filler
2 covering irons
glove
thermometer
rolls of covering
t-pins
carbon fiber rods
Lots of props and servo extensions
