Has anybody mixed the flaps with ailerons when flaps were not otherwise engaged -- so the flaps were ailerons unless being deployed?

I set mine up up this way, but has flown yet.

Why do you need so much aileron? It rolls quite well for a sailplane with just the standard ailerons.

I have no idea what the axn is, but your experience with the bixler is not normal. My first read is that you have the prop on backwards. (Numbers should be towards the front of the aircraft).

My bixler moves, and climbs quite well (even in 20k+ winds!). I can't comment re flaps as I haven't had them deployed, but honestly - I'd be suggesting you feel what push pressure you're getting with it at the moment (holding it), then reverse the prop and try again - and you might notice some significant difference.

Scott, all I can find around here is 8mm shafts that wont fit. Have you found 6mm arrows, do you have a brand name I can track down?

I setup all of my high performance sailplanes this way with mixed flaps with ailerons which essentially give full span strip ailerons and excellent roll rate/response.

Try asking for "Dave Brown" C/F Arrow Shafts at your L.H.S.
I use them for pushrods in "Slimmer" models.

You may have to enlarge the hole a tad. They are about 7.4 mm o.d.

He is referring to the AXN "Clouds Fly" or "Floater Jet" (It's sold under both names)-- very similar model to the Bixler 1, but doesn't do aileron rolls as well.

This is my second flight with Bixler 2 and this is my first plane.
fly very well, seems to have a autopilot, is very stable.
The factory engine looks good to me, perhaps for someone more experienced, need more power, but to my right.

Excellent product I'm very happy with it.

I did it with mine and the plane became way too twichy and sensitive ( flaperons are good if you soar and hunt for thermals) I programmed that off and put normal flaps on one switch and the Camber /Reflex on the aerlions and it works wonders. try it

dontarro, the Bixler's (1 & 2) make excellent trainers for novice flyers. Just go on enjoying it and leave it stock for the time being. Progress onto something more "conventional", like a high winged model (Cessna etc) and then a low winger (both with landing gear of course) and then if you want to mod the Bixler, do it then. Welcome to the sensational world of R/C flight.

I put adhesive sand paper on a down that was ...small (don't remember) Used that to add the needed 8mm byt spinning the dowel in drill. I've also done this once with an 8mm brass tube that was sharpened -- and chucked on a drill. That was after I had the foam all glued together --

O ya -- the 6mm stock spar fits perfectly in the 8mm arrow shafts.
