I was a Crew Chief on the F-111F model (Lakenheath England, 1980-1982)
and on the FB-111A (Pease AFB NH, 1982-1984) ... I can't tell you how many great memories this little airplane brings back.
should be a heck of a build, and the MLG is an absolute piece of art!

F-111 MLG and Nose Landing Gear (NLG).

Hi All,

Managed to get a bit more done on the MLG and the Nose Leg.

Dream Factory: good luck with your build.

Frank40: Yes its coming along thanks.

EddyP: Thanks very much.

Shane: It might need devine intervention to get the data off the drives.

Jim Buzzo: I'm glad it brought back great memories. We used some of your F-111F model wings on the Australian Fleet a while back.

Cheers,

Hawk124.

Hawk, love your main LG build up. I made a set similar to that for the Combat Models F-16 but your's looks much better suited for the F-111 of course (mine had the gear fold in and aft per F-16). I used hard birch ply and bass wood to make the frame to house the retracts. Did you use specific car suspension parts for this? Much better these days with quality electric gear and sequencing doors are now a lot easier!!!!

That U/C looks perfect. Where did you source all the parts? They look definatle manufactured by someone with plenty of skill. Well done.

Hi Eddie,
Yes, one of the local RC car shops let me go through all their car swing arms until I found one the right size for the scale I'm using. I hav'nt got the details here but I will be going back to get another set for the other F-111 once the design is finalised.

Hi Shane,
See above for the source of the parts. All the aluminium bits have been milled out by myself during my lunch hour.
Thanks again for the kind words. After I finnished the centre section I thought of another way to do it ... Hind sight is a wonderfull thing

That is some serious looking MLG you've come up with there, Hawk

How did you go about making up the aluminium centre section - trial and error?

I'm still trying to figure out how to make mine. I have a mill and a lathe, but getting all those angles sussed is going to drive me crazy. Got any hints?

And those 'car parts' for the lower assembly look fantastic. Any particular model that they're from? We have a rather full-on RC car place (RC Garage) not far up the road - maybe they stock the same ones?
