SVSS Monthly ALES Contest – August 4h in Davis, CA

SVSS, Good for what ALES you!

We have been having a fantastic inaugural ALES season here at SVSS. If you haven't made it out yet, you are missing a lot of fun and excitement. The next event will be on Saturday, August 4th and we will again fly all planes in a single class. Feedback for the Seeded scoring, which orders pilots based on their flying results, was positive and we will give it another try with an improved system for posting scores. One of our team members is off in Muncie for the NATS so Ron and Aric will be holding down the fort for the day.

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the September issue of Electric Flight magazine, on shelves now. The Tailview column is about ALES and includes photos from our March event.

Our Pilots’ Meeting will be at 9:30 and first flights at 10am. Entry fee is $10 and AMA membership is required. Ron will be our Chef du Jour and this week and we will have a 'build-your-own-sandwich' bar with all of the fixings for just $5.

For directions, visit our website at http://www.svss.org/

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

For August, Mother Nature sure decided to throw us a curve. We started with overcast skies and we had a tough first 10-minute round. Soon the sky opened up, and as it did, the wind picked up as well until noon when a front came through that was ripping hats off people's heads. We had a lunch break and the front moved on followed by a couple of great flights until the last flight of the day when another front came through. Well, here's another event for the record book.

A wide mix of Radians, a 125% Windfree, a Gentle Lady, My Oly II, a 4-meter AVA longhorn, I'll see if I can get others to chime in.

Thanks for the planes, but what order? I am just curious with the weather you had if a Radian do well. I saw a few months back a Radian won in the Seattle area with over 20kt winds!
